Atlanta Falcons edge rusher James Pearce Jr. has rejoined the team and is expected to participate in mandatory minicamp this week, marking his first return to the facility since his February arrest.

According to multiple reports, James Pearce Jr. reported Monday for team activities and will practice during the Atlanta Falcons’ sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, the team does not plan to make the second-year defender available to reporters during minicamp.

Pearce has remained away from the team throughout the voluntary portion of the offseason program while addressing legal matters stemming from a February incident involving former girlfriend and WNBA player Rickea Jackson.

Authorities alleged that Pearce rammed Jackson’s vehicle multiple times near a police station in Doral, Florida, before fleeing the scene. He initially faced several charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, fleeing law enforcement and resisting arrest, along with a misdemeanor stalking charge.

Last month, a Florida court approved James Pearce Jr.’s entry into a one-year diversion program. Prosecutors will dismiss the charges if he avoids further legal trouble, complies with random drug testing requirements and completes a mental health treatment program. Pearce must also avoid contact with Jackson during the duration of the program.

Jackson previously sought a protective order against Pearce but later withdrew the request as part of the resolution process.

Despite the progress in the legal case, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed that the matter remains under review under the league’s personal conduct policy. The NFL can issue discipline regardless of the outcome of criminal proceedings.

Falcons Have Remained Quiet Publicly

Atlanta has largely refrained from commenting on Pearce’s situation. Head coach Kevin Stefanski previously stated only that the organization has maintained communication with the player’s legal representatives.

Pearce’s return comes after months of uncertainty regarding his future with the franchise.

Key Piece of Atlanta’s Defense

Before the off-field issues emerged, Pearce had established himself as one of the Falcons’ most promising young defenders.

Selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the former Tennessee standout enjoyed an impressive rookie season, recording 10.5 sacks to set a franchise rookie record. His performance earned him a third-place finish in Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.

Atlanta views Pearce and fellow first-round defender Jalon Walker as foundational pieces for the future of its pass rush.

For now, Pearce’s presence at minicamp signals a return to football activities, although his status with the league remains unresolved as the NFL continues its investigation.
