Notre Dame strengthened its future defensive front Monday by securing a commitment from four-star defensive end Darieon Prescott, one of the nation’s top prospects in the 2028 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pound standout from Bolingbrook, Illinois, announced his decision on The Pat McAfee Show, choosing the Fighting Irish over Oregon and Texas A&M.
Ranked No. 36 overall in ESPN’s SC Next Junior 300 and the No. 7 edge rusher in the 2028 cycle, Prescott becomes the third commitment in Notre Dame’s 2028 class.
Darieon Prescott Explains Notre Dame Commitment
Prescott said he wanted to make an early decision and help establish momentum for Notre Dame’s 2028 recruiting class.
“I just really wanted to set the tone for the 2028 class,” Prescott told ESPN. “Being a highly rated recruit, I want them to know when it’s time, it’s time.”
He credited head coach Marcus Freeman and first-year defensive line coach Charlie Partridge for making Notre Dame feel like the right fit after multiple campus visits.
“I always feel different when I came to Notre Dame, especially the environment,” Prescott said.
Elite Defensive Talent Joins Irish Pipeline
Prescott posted an impressive sophomore campaign at Bolingbrook High School. He recorded 65 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 26 quarterback pressures and five sacks while starring in three sports.
His commitment continues Notre Dame’s recent success recruiting defensive linemen under Partridge. The Fighting Irish already boast one of the nation’s top 2027 defensive line classes, highlighted by several ESPN 300 prospects.
Prescott said he’s eager to join that group.
“There’s a lot of good, young talent coming in. They got a lot of dogs and I can’t wait to be a part of that.”

Prescott joins three-star safety Andre Jones and kicker Owen Davies in Notre Dame’s 2028 class.
Meanwhile, the Fighting Irish’s 2027 recruiting class remains among the nation’s best, ranking No. 2 in ESPN’s latest team rankings with 17 ESPN 300 commitments, underscoring Freeman’s emphasis on building through the trenches.
