Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Isaiah Adams is expected to report to training camp despite facing four firearm-related charges in Canada, according to ESPN. The 25-year-old returned to Arizona after surrendering to authorities and will join the team as scheduled while legal proceedings continue.
Adams turned himself in to the Durham Regional Police on Sunday following an investigation conducted by the department’s Guns and Gangs Unit.
Adams Faces Four Firearm-Related Charges
Authorities have charged Adams with possessing a weapon by crime, possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm without a license, possessing a loaded firearm, and possessing a prohibited device.
His 27-year-old sister, Allyson Mae Adams, is facing the same four charges.
According to police, the investigation led to four arrests. Prosecutors charged two other individuals with trafficking fentanyl after officers allegedly recovered more than three kilograms of the drug from a vehicle. Prosecutors have not charged Adams with any drug-related offenses.
Adams’ attorney, Adam Weisberg, maintained his client’s innocence.
“Isaiah is completely innocent in this matter. He had no knowledge of any firearm, and he will be fully exonerated.”
The Cardinals also acknowledged the situation in a brief statement.
“We are aware of the situation involving Isaiah Adams. Out of respect for the process, we will refrain from commenting further at this time.”
Competition Awaits at Training Camp
Arizona selected Adams in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Illinois. He has appeared in 32 games over his first two NFL seasons, making 16 starts, including 11 last season.
Although Isaiah Adams entered the offseason as the projected starting right guard, he could compete with rookie second-round pick Chase Bisontis for the position during training camp.
The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on Wednesday, with their first practice scheduled for Thursday. Adams’ availability for football activities remains unchanged for now, though his legal situation will likely continue to develop as the case moves forward.
