The 2023 Football Season is just around the corner. With fall camp starting in just a couple weeks let’s do some position previews for the BYU Football team. Today I will talk about the BYU Quarterbacks and the running backs in the next article.
Kedon Slovis
Slovis is a 6-3 215 lbs senior from Scottsdale Arizona. Kedon Slovis has been the starter for the BYU Football team. Slovis is a transfer from Pittsburgh and has also played for USC. This will be his only season with BYU and he can have a good one with the weapons he has on the field.
He started his career at USC in 2019 where he put up 282 completions for 3,502 yards and 30 touchdowns. In his second year as a Trojan he put up 177 completions for 1,921 yards and 17 touchdowns. The 2021 he put up 193 completions for 2,153 yards and 11 touchdowns. Last season he played for Pittsburgh and put up 184 completions for 2,397 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Cade Fennegan
Fennegan is a 6-2 190 lbs sophomore from Dallas Texas. Cade Fennegan is a transfer from Boise State who has a good chance at winning the back up battle for the Cougars. Fennegan started one year for the Broncos before transferring to BYU.
Cade Fennegan has only played one season and he played it for Boise State. In 2020 he put up 15 completions for 182 and two touchdowns.
Jake Retzlaff
Retzlaff is a 6-2 205 lbs junior from Corona, California. Jake Retzlaff will be either quarterback number two or three for BYU. Retzlaff is going into year three with the Cougars and will be a great quarterback if the starter goes down. He played for Riverside City College before he transferred to BYU this season.
Nick Billoups
Billoups is a 6-2 203 lbs sophomore from San Clemente California. Nick Billoups has been with BYU for two years and will either quarterback three or four this season. Billups is a great dual threat quarterback and would be good for BYU if he has to see the field. He has no stats as he has yet to suit up for the Cougars during his career.
Ryder Burton
Ryder Burton is a 6-2 200 lbs freshman out of Springville Utah. Burton has a lot to learn before he takes the field as a BYU quarterback. With the others he has in front of them he will learn a lot and also have time to develop before he starts for BYU. Burton’s Senior year at Springville he threw for 1,972 yards and 21 touchdowns. In his junior season he threw for 2,301 yards and 27 touchdowns. That year he also led the Red Devils to the 5A High School Championship.
Cole Hagen
Hagen is 6-2 185 bs freshman out of Draper Utah. Cole Hagen the other newcomer who is from Corner Canyon High School. He also has a lot to learn and needs to grow in his mental side of game before he hits the field. Hagen in his career threw for 443 completions for 7,515 yards and 87 touchdowns.
