Texas Athletics

Volleyball season is right around the corner and the Big 12 preseason volleyball poll is out. The newcomers are making there case for winning the Big 12 in their first season.

Texas

Texas is coming off a 28-1 season and 15-1 in the Big 12. They are also coming off an NCAA championship so they have a lot to fight for and big expectations for this upcoming season. The Longhorns could win 25 or more games this season and could repeat their run in the NCAA tournament.

BYU

The Cougars are coming off a 22-7 and 15-3 in conference which caused them to finish second in the WCC. BYU may win between 20 and 23 games this upcoming season and many in the Big 12. The Cougars will also push to win the Big 12 Championship and go decently far into the NCAA tournament.

Baylor

Baylor predicted to be third after finishing second last season. The Bears went 25-7 and 12-4 in the Big 12. Baylor is looking to win 20 games this year with the schedule they have ahead which would cause them to finish third in the Big 12. They could also put their name into the NCAA tournament but they most likely won’t make it past the second round.

TCU

The Horned Frogs are looking to bounce back from a 17-11 season and 11-5 in the Big 12. TCU could win 17 or more games this season if they can play their game and fight until the end. They will also need to step their game up against the newcomers in the Big 12.

Kansas

Kansas looks to find a rhythm of winning this year as they went 19-11 but only 8-8 in conference. This team looks to win more games this year in conference but they will still only win about 19 games this upcoming season.

Houston

The Cougars went 30-4 overall and 19-1 in conference. They could also make a push for the top but they won’t come in and rock the boat like other teams. Houston will win about 20 games in conference and maybe 25 overall. They will also go to the NCAA tournament and make some waves.

Iowa State

Iowa State went 20-12 overall and 10-6 in conference play. The Cyclones are looking to bounce back in conference play but they will still be on the lower end of the conference. This team is still growing and rebuilding so don’t expect to much of a big year from Iowa State. They may put up 18 wins and hopefully at least 10 again in conference.

UCF

UCF is third newcomer to make this list. The Knights went 28-2 and 19-1 in the AAC and was second in the conference. They will struggle with the Big 12 transition in volleyball and maybe be in the bottom five for this conference. UCF will win 15 games and maybe six or seven in conference.

Oklahoma

The Sooners went 15-3 and 5-11 in the Big 12. Oklahoma will need to make this their year to step it up before they move into the SEC and play some bigger volleyball. This season they will win 15 games and five or six in the Big 12.

Texas Tech

Texas Tech is coming off a 16-3 season and a 5-11 in conference play. The Red Raiders may win 15 games and four or five in conference. They can bounce back and have a bigger season if they can pull of some amazing upsets.

Cincinnati

The Bearcats went 11-19 and 9-11 in the AAC. This move will be very challenging for Cincinnati and they will struggle to win for a couple of years in the Big 12. They will win nine or 10 games this year and not many in the conference.

West Virginia

West Virginia went 7-22 in season and 0-16 in the Big 12. They will most likely take last in the Big 12 again as they struggle to find their footing no matter they do in the conference. The Mountaineers will win six or seven games and hopefully one or two in conference.
