The Jacksonville Jaguars have made another move aimed at preserving the core of an offense that showed significant growth last season, agreeing to a contract extension with tight end Brenton Strange before he entered the final year of his rookie deal.
The new agreement, negotiated with representatives Jim Ivler, JR Roggio, and Jon Perzley of Sportstars, is worth up to $48 million over three years and includes $25 million in guaranteed money. The extension reflects Jacksonville’s confidence in Strange after his emergence as one of the team’s most reliable offensive contributors.
Strange Earned a Bigger Role in Jacksonville
Selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Strange steadily developed before taking over as the Jaguars’ primary tight end in 2025. The former Penn State standout capitalized on the opportunity, posting career highs with 46 receptions, 540 receiving yards, and three touchdowns despite appearing in only 12 games.
A hip injury forced him to miss five contests, but his impact remained evident whenever he was on the field. Strange’s production helped solidify his standing within the offense and strengthened his connection with quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Jaguars Reward Offensive Growth
Jacksonville’s front office had hinted earlier this year that extension talks with Strange were a priority. General manager James Gladstone acknowledged after the season that preliminary discussions had already begun with several young contributors, including Strange.
The extension continues a broader organizational strategy focused on maintaining continuity. Rather than allowing a key young player to approach free agency, the Jaguars chose to secure Strange long term and keep an important piece of their offensive foundation in place.
Contract Places Strange Among NFL’s Top-Paid Tight Ends
At its maximum value, Strange’s deal places him among the highest-paid tight ends in the league. The agreement arrives just days after the Atlanta Falcons rewarded Kyle Pitts with a lucrative extension of his own, highlighting the growing market for productive young tight ends.
While Strange’s résumé does not yet match some of the league’s established stars, Jacksonville clearly believes his best football remains ahead of him. The 25-year-old has totaled 91 catches, 981 yards, and six touchdowns across his first three NFL seasons and appears positioned to take on an even larger role moving forward.
Jacksonville Banking on Continued Development
The Jaguars’ decision underscores how highly they value Strange’s trajectory. After moving on from veteran Evan Engram and entrusting the position to Strange, the organization received the production it hoped for and is now investing in his future.
If Strange continues progressing within Jacksonville’s offense, the extension could become one of the team’s most team-friendly deals over the next few seasons while providing stability at a key position for years to come.
