Trade rumors surrounding Brandon Aiyuk took another turn this week after the wide receiver publicly voiced support for the Washington Commanders on social media.

Aiyuk posted a video to his Instagram Story in which he repeatedly shouted “Go Commanders,” while also using the franchise’s “Raise Hail” and “Take Command” slogans. He later shared a photo of former Washington quarterback Mark Rypien celebrating the team’s Super Bowl XXVI victory.

Social Media Activity Adds To Ongoing Uncertainty

The posts arrive as Aiyuk’s future with the San Francisco 49ers remains unresolved. General manager John Lynch said earlier this year that it was “safe to say” Aiyuk had played his final snap for the organization, though the team has yet to complete a trade or release him.

Aiyuk has increasingly used social media to express frustration with the situation. Earlier this offseason, he criticized the 49ers’ handling of his contract and suggested the organization was reluctant to move on because of concerns about how he could perform elsewhere.

Commanders Connection Continues To Grow

A move to Washington would reunite Aiyuk with quarterback Jayden Daniels, a close friend and former teammate at Arizona State. Aiyuk has previously posted photos wearing Commanders gear, and Daniels remains one of the few accounts he follows on Instagram.

The receiver signed a four-year, $120 million extension with San Francisco in 2024, but the relationship between player and team deteriorated after a serious knee injury. A torn ACL, MCL and meniscus limited Aiyuk’s availability, and the 49ers later voided portions of his guaranteed money after disputes related to his rehabilitation process.

Productive Receiver Still Draws Interest

Before suffering the injury, Aiyuk established himself as one of the league’s top receivers. During the 2023 season, he earned second-team All-Pro honors after recording 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.

While no trade appears imminent, Aiyuk’s latest public comments will likely intensify speculation that Washington remains his preferred landing spot as the standoff with San Francisco continues.
