The New York Jets will be without first-round rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq for the remainder of the offseason after the former Oregon standout underwent hernia surgery.

Head coach Aaron Glenn described the procedure as minor and said the organization expects Sadiq to return sometime during training camp, which begins July 28.

“It’s something that he dealt with, and we knew about it going into his last year of college,” Glenn told reporters during OTAs.

Jets Expect Sadiq to Play Major Offensive Role

Despite the setback, the Jets still view Sadiq as a major piece of their revamped offense heading into 2026.

New York selected the explosive tight end with the 16th overall pick in April after he emerged as one of college football’s most dynamic weapons at the University of Oregon. Sadiq finished last season with 51 catches, 560 receiving yards and eight touchdowns while playing through the injury.

The rookie also turned heads at the NFL Scouting Combine by running a 4.39-second 40-yard dash — the fastest recorded time ever by a tight end, surpassing Vernon Davis’ longstanding mark from 2006.

The Jets believe his speed and versatility can create matchup problems in multiple tight end formations alongside Jeremy Ruckert and Mason Taylor.

Offensive Rebuild Continues Under Aaron Glenn

New York entered the offseason focused on adding explosiveness after finishing near the bottom of the league in scoring last season.

The Jets also used a first-round pick on wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and brought in veteran quarterback Geno Smith to help stabilize the offense.

Glenn provided another injury update Thursday, revealing kicker Cade York is dealing with a groin issue, though he is expected back soon. The team officially added veteran kicker Younghoe Koo as part of an ongoing competition.

Meanwhile, star receiver Garrett Wilson said he feels healthy again after knee injuries limited him to seven games last season.

“I feel great,” Wilson said during OTAs. “I’ve got work to do, but I’m excited about where I’m at.”
