The 2023 NFL season is officially over. It is draft season! The Washington Commanders have hit the reset button. New owners have come in and shaken things up. Dan Quinn is the new head coach, and Kliff Kingsbury is the offensive coordinator. There are some solid building blocks on the team, but this team needs an infusion of young talent. The good news is they have lots of draft capital. Here is the Washington Commanders 2024 NFL Draft guide.

The Washington Commanders have nine picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

  • Round 1: No. 2 overall
  • Round 2: No. 35 overall
  • Round 2: No. 40 overall (via Chicago)
  • Round 3: No. 66 overall
  • Round 3: No. 100 overall (via San Francisco)
  • Round 4: No. 103 overall
  • Round 5: No. 135 overall
  • Round 6: No. 180 overall
  • Round 7: No. 219 overall

The Washington Commanders have some of the best draft capital of any team. Due to the Montez Sweat and Chase Young trades, the Commanders have five picks in the top 100. Three of those picks are in the top 50. This gives the Commanders the flexibility to trade up to grab a player they like or sit back and collect talent.

Washington Commanders NFL Draft Needs

The Washington Commanders need the following positions: QB, OT, EDGE, LB, IOL

Quarterback is the obvious need for the Washington Commanders. At second overall, they should be able to get their man. While Caleb Williams might be gone, Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels is a pretty good consolation prize. The Commanders then need to protect their franchise quarterback. Their skill position players are solid with Terry McLaurin and Brian Robinson leading the way. Now, they need some linemen.

On defense, they need some edge rushers now that Sweat and Young are gone. It was the right move to deal with them, but now they need to replenish the position. On top of that, linebacking was an area of weakness, and the team will likely look to improve the position on day two or three.

Mock Draft Analysis

It’s all about building in the trenches for the Washington Commanders. Picking the quarterback is expected, but then the rest of this mock draft will have the Commanders collecting offensive linemen. Barton has first-round talent. Haynes and Keegan have potential if developed correctly.

On defense, Trice and Dorlus could become the new Sweat and Young for the Washington Commanders. Adding Eboigbe late in the draft is good value. The Crimson Tide has put out great defensive linemen in the past, and counting on that, it is not a bad strategy.

The Washington Commanders hope they can finally turn the page on the Dan Snyder era and rebuild this franchise. A great draft would go a long way in speeding up the process.
