Utah and Utah State are big winners in Week 4!
#6 BYU 3-0 (1-0 in the Big 12)
The 3-0 Cougars had a bye this week. BYU and their Heisman candidates will return to action on Saturday, October 3rd against TCU. BYU and TCU will battle in TCU’s home stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
#12 Utah 4-0 (1-0 in the Big 12)
Utah’s road game against Iowa State looked like it was going to be incredibly one-sided when the Utes took a 24-3 lead into the locker room at halftime. ISU wouldn’t quit, though. They had a big third quarter and, at the start of the fourth, cut the lead to 24-17. Devon Dampier would throw a touchdown pass to Wayshawn Parker to end the Cyclones’ rally and win the game 31-17. Dampier would finish the game with 207 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and 27 yards rushing. More on Parker in a bit.
Utah State 1-3 (0-0 in the Pac-12)
The 0-3 Aggies were desperate for a win when the Troy Trojans of the Sun Belt came to town this week. Utah State finally got their first win as a member of the Pac-12 Conference. The Aggies took a 7-0 lead on their first offensive play from scrimmage when quarterback Grady Brosterhous hit Javon Robinson for a 57-yard touchdown pass. USU would win, 21-10. Brosterhous had a big game; he was 18 of 28 for 242 yards with two touchdowns and had another 89 yards running the football. USU has a big road trip to their old rivals that moved to the Pac-12 with them this Saturday on the Smurf Turf in Boise.
Weber State 2-3 (1-1 in the Big Sky)
The Wildcats lost an absolute heartbreaker that they so desperately needed to win. Weber State battled 0-4 Portland State at home in Ogden. Portland would jump out to a 28-7 lead, but the Wildcats fought back, cutting it to 28-21. PSU would again build a 38-21 lead, and back came the Wildcats. Weber State would tie the game at 41-41 with 1:53 to go. The home team would force a three-and-out and get the ball back with 1:24 to go. A promising drive would end in a pick that would be returned to the Weber State 45-yard line. Portland State would get 21 yards on two plays and kick the game-winning 41-yard field goal at the gun. Weber State had 703 yards of offense, including 488 passing yards, but they threw three interceptions and lost three fumbles. Six turnovers crushed a ridiculous offensive output. The Wildcats will try to bounce back at Cal Poly on Saturday.
Utah Tech 0-5 (0-3 in the Big Sky)
The Trailblazers went to Greeley, Colorado, this week looking for their first win. Utah Tech went up against Northern Colorado, and their misery in 2026 continued. It looked like the Trailblazers might have something in the tank for a team also near the bottom of the Big Sky. Tech was down only a touchdown, 20-13 at the break. That was their high-water mark. Northern Colorado outscored them 17-0 in the second half, and Tech is still looking for their first win of the season. They host rival and fellow struggling Big Sky foe, Southern Utah, this Saturday.
Southern Utah 1-4 (0-2 in the Big Sky)
Speaking of struggling Southern Utah, the Thunderbirds hosted the undefeated Idaho State Bengals this week in Cedar City. Southern Utah was getting desperate for a win. Star running back Floyd Chalk delivered. Chalk had 159 yards and a touchdown as the team rushed for 242 yards and three touchdowns. It wasn’t enough to beat the on-fire Bengals, though. The boys from Pocatello left Cedar City with a 28-24 win and a still-perfect record. Southern Utah heads to St. George to take on Utah Tech on Saturday.
Roberts-Hall Award Player of the Week
Utah’s Wayshawn Parker did it all in the Utes 31-17 win on the road at Iowa State. Parker had 18 carries for 174 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. The Utes star running back was just as effective in the passing game, catching five passes for 65 yards and the game-clinching touchdown. Utah is scary when Dampier and Parker play that well consistently together.
