The Houston Texans have locked in their defensive cornerstone, agreeing to a three-year, $150 million extension with Will Anderson Jr.

The deal includes $134 million guaranteed and makes Anderson the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, surpassing the mark previously set by Micah Parsons. Houston had already exercised Anderson’s fifth-year option earlier this month, signaling that a long-term agreement was imminent.

Dominant Production Justifies Massive Deal

Anderson’s 2025 season made the extension inevitable. The All-Pro edge rusher recorded 12 sacks, 20 tackles for loss, and 85 quarterback pressures, anchoring one of the league’s most dominant defenses.

Advanced metrics further highlight his impact, with top-tier rankings in run stop rate, run stuffs, and total pressures. His all-around disruption helped him finish second in Defensive Player of the Year voting behind Myles Garrett, who delivered a historic campaign.

Houston’s defense thrived with Anderson leading the charge, allowing just 17.3 points and 279 total yards per game—both among the NFL’s best.

Centerpiece of Houston’s Rapid Rise

Since being selected third overall in 2023, Anderson has transformed the Texans into a legitimate contender. Alongside franchise quarterback C.J. Stroud, Houston has compiled a 32-19 record, with multiple playoff wins and consecutive AFC South titles.

The Texans’ aggressive draft-day trade to secure Anderson continues to pay dividends, as he consistently disrupts elite quarterbacks such as Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Justin Herbert.

Texans Commit to Sustained Contention

Houston’s investment in Anderson is part of a broader effort to maintain its championship window. The team has also extended key contributors like Danielle Hunter and Dalton Schultz, reinforcing a roster built around defensive dominance.

With Anderson now secured as the face of the defense, the Texans have made it clear—they are building for long-term success and positioning themselves as a consistent force in the AFC.
