Rutgers Guard

Some surprising news today as the Rutgers’ guard, Cam Spencer has entered the transfer portal. This was not an expected move. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights basketball team did fairly well last season, despite facing many injuries. They also missed out on the March Madness tournament and looking to make a comeback this year. Spencer was a top player in 2022 but now enters the transfer portal. Here is a look at the Rutgers’ guard season in 2022, and what is to come in 2023.

Rutgers Guard 2022 Season

Spencer has spent just one season with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The first four seasons of his collegiate career he spent with the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds. In the 2022-2023 season, the first with Rutgers, he played in 34 games and started in 34 of them as well. According to ESPN, Spencer averaged 31.5 minutes per game with a field goal percentage of 44.4% and a three-point percentage of 43.4%. Also to be noted, he scored an average of 13.2 points per game.

The Rutgers guard has been a big part of the Scarlet Knights. The expectation for the 2023-2024 season was originally for him to play a big part in the team. Now, those plans will be changing. Rutgers has been hit with a number of injuries. With a healthy team, maybe Spencer was going to lose what he accomplished in 2022-2023. It still could have been nice for him to be a part of the rotation. A healthy Rutgers hoops team is a dominating one.

What’s Next for Cam Spencer and Rutgers

Making the transfer to Rutgers has been a great thing for Spencer. He should not have trouble finding a new team based on 2022-2023. Any team in need of a guard will jump at the chance to add him to the team. The real question is what is next for Rutgers.

This is major Big Ten basketball news. Rutgers is expected to be healthy and make a push in the conference this coming year. After going 10-10 in the Big Ten, they should be able to secure a winning conference record next season. Without Spencer, the key will be to stay healthy. Following having a clutch player in Spencer, they will need to hope in case of injuries, there is someone else there that can do what he did last season.

This is big news for the Big Ten conference. All that is left to do is to wait to see what happens with Rutgers and the rest of the Big Ten next year. It can be expected that the Big Ten will be a close race. At least ten teams in the conference will be able to push for at least ten wins next season.
