Some surprising news today as the Rutgers’ guard, Cam Spencer has entered the transfer portal. This was not an expected move. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights basketball team did fairly well last season, despite facing many injuries. They also missed out on the March Madness tournament and looking to make a comeback this year. Spencer has spent just one season with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The first four seasons of his collegiate career he spent with the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds. In the 2022-2023 season, the first with Rutgers, he played in 34 games and started in 34 of them as well. According to ESPN, Spencer averaged 31.5 minutes per game with a field goal percentage of 44.4% and a three-point percentage of 43.4%. Also to be noted, he scored an average of 13.2 points per game.
The Rutgers guard has been a big part of the Scarlet Knights. The expectation for the 2023-2024 season was originally for him to play a big part in the team. Now, those plans will be changing. Rutgers has been hit with a number of injuries. With a healthy team, maybe Spencer was going to lose what he accomplished in 2022-2023.
