The Toronto Raptors will be without starting guard Immanuel Quickley for Game 1 of their first-round playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Head coach Darko Rajaković confirmed Quickley is still recovering from a mild right hamstring strain suffered during the regular-season finale against the Brooklyn Nets. While progress has been encouraging, the team is holding him out as a precaution, with a possible return in Game 2 still on the table.

Late-Season Injuries Continue to Linger

The hamstring issue adds to a challenging stretch for Quickley, who also missed time late in the season with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. Despite those setbacks, he remained a key contributor, appearing in 70 games and averaging 16.4 points, 5.9 assists, and 4.0 rebounds.

He also proved to be one of Toronto’s most reliable offensive options, recording 20 or more points in 20 games and finishing with eight double-doubles.

Jamal Shead Steps Into Bigger Role

With Quickley sidelined, Jamal Shead is expected to step into the starting lineup. The second-year guard has started 12 games this season and enters Game 1 averaging 6.6 points and 5.4 assists.

Toronto is will also lean more heavily on Scottie Barnes and RJ Barrett to handle playmaking duties and offensive creation.

Matchup Challenges Against Cleveland

Quickley’s absence looms large against a Cavaliers team led by Donovan Mitchell, one of the league’s most dynamic scorers. His defensive presence and shot creation would have been crucial in slowing Cleveland’s backcourt.

The Cavaliers will also be without reserve big man Thomas Bryant due to a calf strain, though their core remains intact entering the series.

Toronto faces an uphill task in Game 1, and Quickley’s health could ultimately shape how competitive the series becomes moving forward.
