With the news of the untimely passing of OJ Simpson, I knew that news would come out. I didn’t know it would be so much, so soon. Follow me into the recently exposed darkness surrounding the ‘legacy’ of a very confusing individual.

Processing OJ Simpson’s Death

Many people (like my mother), remember Simpson most for being an icon on the big screen (Hertz via Associated Press).

It’s hard to process the death of an individual like Orenthal James. I personally am not grieving the death of the NFL great (neither is Vinnie Politan!). but he is a cultural icon, in the sports world and otherwise.

Simpson created the intersection between true crime and football that I drive on all the time. He highlighted the issues with race relations in America. The case is one of the biggest true crime trials of all time. Then you bring in things like the Heisman trophy and HOF enshrinement. Talk about one individual moving the needle all over the map.

You may not like him, and you probably shouldn’t, but he matters. It’s also fair to have empathy for the grieving process for the extended Simpson family. The passing of Orenthal James may also stir up emotions in the Goldman and Brown families, and our hearts should be with them as well. But as for him as a person? Pshhh.

If you want to feel the fiery flames of inferno licking on your back, you may find OJ Simpson reddit pages to be your preferred low-brow humor that had me cry laughing last night. If you want a little tin foil fun, enjoy the conspiracies about his passing being related to certain vaccines.

Simpson had a very long life considering the childhood illness he grew up with, his career in football, and his time in prison. None of those things promote longevity in a person. Did anyone even know he had cancer?

As an injury epidemiologist, I have a personal curiosity about whether or not he actually donated his brain to science for CTE research, like he expressed interest in doing before. As you know, I cover many articles about CTE here. That’s a brain we need to study.

Darkness Coming to Light

Nicole Minet has come forward on Twitter to talk about OJ at USC in the full post here. She is the first, but hopefully not the last, to come out with some potential truth bombs. I loved having Simpson on Twitter offering opinions on current true crime cases, but this kind of thing could be better.

Minet says she was a student worker at USC back in 1995 when she spoke with alumni lawyers, Robert Kardashian and Robert Shapiro, who came in to visit the Pres of student affairs one day. Allegedly, Nicole had to sign a NDA about the whole incident, hence the prolonged silence, that she has now broken.

Why were OJ Simpson’s lawyers there? Allegedly, they were attempting to bury some incidents that happened back in The Juice’s college days that would not be helpful ‘past acts’ to come up during the murder trial.

OJ Simpson
The slowest speed chase seen around the world.

What behavior were they allegedly trying to bury with fat checks? Allegedly, Simpson had roughed up two white, blond girlfriends back in college. He allegedly also violated one.

Would I be surprised to find that the tweet is 100% true? Not at all. I cannot wait to see what else is going to come to light and what we can confirm to be true. We’re all justice-starved around here.
