UFL for Kickers, make NFL

Cowboys K Brandon Aubrey (17) - gnnhd.tv

A new era of Spring football begins on Saturday March 30 at 1:00pm. The UFL will be a league for kickers to live their dream of making the NFL.

Now it’s time for the NFL to take notice of all the top kickers available in the UFL. This is just like how the Dallas Cowboys did it with Brandon Aubrey last year.

Previous USFL Kicker

The 29-year-old, record breaking kicker holds honors in the NFL. They include two field goals of 59 and 60 yards in the same game.

He also has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the week and Player of the month.

At 6′ 3″, 208 pounds, Aubrey has made many clutch field goals for the Cowboys. The Cowboys were lucky to get such a skilled kicker from the USFL.

Two Up and Coming Kickers in the UFL

This year, two new kickers with talent and a bit of a famous following could be stealing the show. Just signing them will already boost up ratings.

Brahmas K Donald De La Haye (19) – themeparktribune.com

Donald “Deestroying” De La Haye

Famous Youtuber Donald De La Haye will be kicking for the San Antonio Brahmas when the season starts. He goes by his Youtube handle, “Deestroying” and he has quite a story to tell.

He became an overnight sensation when self made kicking videos of him went viral. Everybody wanted this guy to start kicking again. This is when the UFL called his name.

Breaking NCAA Rules

The 5’9″, 170 pound trailblazer played his college ball at the University of Central Florida.

He began a You Tube Channel in 2015. The NCAA was furious that the kicker was breaking their rules about making NIL money off his status. When giving an ultimatum, he gave up football to continue his Youtube channel.

Since then, “Deestroying” has seen his channel rise up to 5.7 million subscribers. Fast forward and today, NIL is legal.

UFL Dream Comes True

Five years after his shortcoming in the CFL, De La Haye was overjoyed that he made the UFL. This is what he said in his Youtube reaction video.

“I could cry right now bro,” he said, before reading a text asking him to kick for the Brahmas. This whole entire time, I was trying to figure out what my options are,” he said. “Maybe I have some eligibility left to go back to college. I might get an NFL tryout. Maybe I have to go to the USFL, maybe I have to go play in Europe. Do something. And literally in this moment is where it all just became clear.”

Congrats to the young man on living out his dream through adversity and hard work.

Matt Coghlin

Coghlin will be kicking this season for the Memphis Showboats after being dispersed from the New Orleans Breakers.

The five-year Michigan State Spartan will look to make the NFL this year, despite coming up short last year.

The 5’9″, 190 pound kicker holds the MSU school record for most points and field goals converted. He was decent from 2017-2021, but his best year came from helping his team in 2021 win 11 games.

USFL Accomplishments

In week one of the USFL last season, Coghlin booted 5-straight field goals in a win over the Pittsburgh Maulers. He earned Special Teams Player of the week recognition.

Coghlin also set all kinds of league achievements. He was 18/19 on field goals with his longest being 55 yards, and was a perfect 25-25 in kicking extra points.

This year, the MSU alumni bombed a 58-yarder with one step. It happened on March 10 during a Memphis Showboats’ practice.

With all the talent surrounding the UFL in the league, let’s hope the NFL pays attention to it.

And let’s see if these two kickers can join the NFL, just like Aubrey did.
