Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane agreed to a four-year, $64 million contract extension on Wednesday that keeps the Pro Bowl playmaker in Miami through the 2030 season.

The deal includes $32 million guaranteed and could reach $68 million through incentives. Achane’s $16 million annual average value makes him the third-highest-paid running back in the NFL behind Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey.

The extension marks the first major long-term deal completed under Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and coach Jeff Hafley.

Achane Emerged as Centerpiece of Miami’s Offence

Achane, 24, rushed for a career-high 1,350 yards and earned his first Pro Bowl selection during the 2025 season.

Since entering the league in 2023, Achane leads all qualified NFL running backs with 5.6 yards per carry. He also has developed into one of the league’s most dangerous receiving threats out of the backfield, totaling 172 receptions and 13 receiving touchdowns across his first three seasons.

Hafley praised Achane earlier this offseason while emphasizing his importance to Miami’s future.

“He’s dynamic,” Hafley said in March. “His vision, his acceleration, the way he can catch the ball out of the backfield, he’s so hard to defend.”

The former third-round pick out of Texas A&M has totaled 3,057 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns in three NFL seasons.

Dolphins Continue Reshaping Roster

Miami’s decision to extend Achane comes after a dramatic offseason that included moving on from several core veterans, including Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa.

Despite those changes, the Dolphins consistently maintained Achane was not available in trade talks and viewed him as one of the franchise’s foundational players.

Miami also appears committed to building a more physical rushing attack under Hafley. The Dolphins selected Kadyn Proctor in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft to strengthen the offensive line in front of Achane.

The Dolphins are also expected to explore future extensions for center Aaron Brewer and linebacker Jordyn Brooks.
