Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías was under arrest on Sunday night. He’s currently facing charges of domestic violence after a fight with his wife in South Los Angeles. The incident happened after a Major League Soccer match at BMO Stadium, as shared by Assistant Chief Chris Carr of the Exposition Park Department of Public Safety.
Urias’ Release on Bail
Urías, who is 27 years old, was taken into custody shortly after 11 p.m. Pacific Time and then booked into jail around 1 a.m., as per jail records. He was let out on bail for $50,000 at 4:47 a.m. and is scheduled to appear in court on September 27.
Los Angeles Dodgers’ Response to Urias’ Case
On Monday, the Los Angeles Dodgers acknowledged that there was an incident involving Urías. They mentioned that while they try to gather all the facts, he won’t be travelling with the team. The team added that they have no further comments for now.
Urias’ Previous Incident and Suspension
In 2019, Urías had a similar incident related to domestic violence, although no charges were eventually filed against him. However, he did get a 20-game suspension under Major League Baseball’s policy on domestic violence. He was the first player to receive such a suspension after the policy was introduced in 2015.
MLB Investigation
Major League Baseball is looking into this new case, and it’s common for players facing such charges to be put on administrative leave while an investigation happens, just like Urías was before his suspension in 2019. Urías’ court date is set during the last week of the regular baseball season.
Performance Impact
Urías had been one of the top-performing pitchers in baseball for the past three years, especially in the last season when he had the best-earned run average in the National League and finished third in the Cy Young Award race. However, this season, just before he becomes a free agent, he has been struggling, with an earned run average of 4.60 and allowing a career-high of 24 home runs in 117⅓ innings.
