The Detroit Pistons have begun trying to fill their head coaching vacancy. After dismissing Dwane Casey, the team is looking for a new coach to develop the young core of players. Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey make up one of the most interesting backcourt duos in the NBA. While the Pistons are not rushing, they have interviewed three candidates for the head coaching vacancy.

Detroit Pistons Head Coaching Vacancy

The candidates interviewed are Milwaukee Bucks assistant Charles Lee, Overtime Elite’s Kevin Ollie, and New Orleans Pelicans assistant Jarron Collins. It is no surprise that the Pistons are targeting someone from the Bucks organization as they have been one of the best franchises in the league for the past half-decade. Ollie is best known for his time at UConn and many have wondered when he would make the jump to the NBA. Collins is a relatively new candidate but one source described his interview as “stellar”. It seems there will be no shortage of candidates for the position.

Taking Their Time

The team has made it clear that they are in no rush to hire someone. While this first round of interviews has been completed, Detroit Pistons is not going to rush into filling their head coaching vacancy. They may be waiting to see what other coaches hit the market in the offseason. Nick Nurse was already let go by the Toronto Raptors. Other coaches might be available if their teams make early exits in the playoffs. The Pistons have one of the most exciting young rosters especially with another top-five pick coming in.

Most people would agree that it was time to move on from Casey. This year was a struggle mostly because Cunningham was out for most of the year. While the team is still in the midst of a rebuild, they have to show improvement next year for fans to feel good about the direction of the team.
