The 2024 NFL Combine was an overall success for the fans, participants, and to the tv personnel. It started on February 29 and ended on March 3, 2024, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Brandon Beane had his Bills’ staff on hand at the NFL Combine to take a look at all the receiver prospects. But one player, in particular, caught their eye.
Wide receivers were highlighted in this year’s NFL Combine. As this is supposed to be a deep draft position filled with fast and skilled prospects.
Buffalo Bills Aspirations in 2024 NFL Combine
The Bills met with Brian Thomas Jr. out of LSU who has consistently been linked to Orchard Park. At number 28 in April’s upcoming player selection meeting, he will be the one to watch.
After his shockingly fast 40 time of 4.33 seconds, the Bills brass should keep a keen eye on the talented receiver. Now he will be on other team’s radars, as well.
Thomas is going to be a great prospect to draft because of his accomplishments around the LSU football program.
LSU Career Stats
After posting just over 300 yards receiving in 2021 and 2022, Thomas broke out in 2023 as he posted 1,177 yards and 17 touchdowns.
He also had the advantage of playing alongside teammate and fellow LSU, 2024 draft prospect Malik Nabers. To add to his resumé, he had top quarterback prospect, Jayden Daniels throwing him the ball too.
Imagine Thomas wearing Buffalo royal blue next season and having Josh Allen throwing him go routes in the pros.
Thomas’ Media quotes to Buffalo Bills
Thomas spoke to the media during downtime about meeting with Brandon Beane about what he can bring to Orchard Park. Based on speculation, it sounded hyped up in a positive way.
“I did have a meeting with the Bills… I feel like I would be a great teammate to the team, a great leader in the wide receiver room, just being able to be me, just being able to be a playmaker,” Thomas said. “So I would say I would bring all those intangibles to a team.”
Thomas definitely has all the talent in the world to be a star in professional football. Like Gabe Davis, he is a primary deep threat on go routs. He is more athletic and polished as a receiver. The versatile athlete is explosive down the field, and can also create yards after the catch.
Talent is something, but it cannot be subbed in for heart and character. The speedy receiver could definitely be a part of the Buffalo Bills winning culture and tight family.
Connections with Joe Brady
Thomas was not at LSU when Joe Brady was. Brady was the passing game coordinator when he spent his time there.
He told the media he did know about Brady’s time there and what he would do for him in Buffalo.
“We were just talking a lot of football, talking about his time at LSU,” Thomas said, “I wasn’t there whenever he was, so just talking a lot of football. Talking about what we did at LSU.”
The fact that they both were at LSU at different times doesn’t mean much. Just the fact that they were able to chat and talk football gives Thomas more draft accountability and stature.
When asked if he thought that he may be headed to Western, New York, he admitted that he really didn’t think much about it.
“I haven’t really been paying attention to a lot of mock drafts,” Thomas said. “I try to stay off the media, so I haven’t been paying attention.”
Whenever the Bills decide to pull the trigger on a receiver, I hope that it is in the first-round, because Thomas will go quickly.
