The Los Angeles Chargers have suffered another significant blow along their revamped offensive line.
Center Tyler Biadasz is out indefinitely after suffering damage to his ACL and additional injuries to his left knee during Tuesday’s joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Biadasz underwent an MRI after the injury and will likely meet with additional doctors as the Chargers seek more clarity on the severity of the damage and the best course of action.
Biadasz Injured During Joint Practice
The 28-year-old center was injured during an 11-on-11 drill when 49ers defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez fell into his left leg.
Biadasz remained on the ground for nearly five minutes while Chargers trainers attended to him before helping him onto a medical cart. He was unable to continue practice.
The injury comes at an especially difficult time for Biadasz, who signed with Los Angeles in March after the Washington Commanders released him.
Chargers Signed Biadasz to Anchor Revamped Line
Biadasz was one of the Chargers’ biggest additions this offseason as general manager Joe Hortiz looked to overhaul an offensive line that struggled with injuries and consistency in 2025.
The veteran signed a three-year, $30 million contract after starting 31 games over the previous two seasons with Washington. Before joining the Commanders, Biadasz spent his first four NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2020 draft.
He started all 49 games he played for Dallas and earned his lone Pro Bowl selection following the 2022 season.
Los Angeles viewed Biadasz as a reliable veteran presence who could stabilize the middle of the offensive line and help protect quarterback Justin Herbert.
Another Setback for Chargers’ Offensive Line
The Chargers have already experienced major injury problems up front.
Left tackle Rashawn Slater missed the entire 2025 season after suffering a season-ending knee injury during training camp, while right tackle Joe Alt missed 11 games because of a recurring ankle issue that eventually required surgery.
Los Angeles made strengthening the offensive line a priority this offseason, bringing in Biadasz along with other veterans and using multiple draft picks on offensive linemen.
Now, the team could be forced to turn to second-round rookie Jake Slaughter at center.
The Chargers selected Slaughter out of Florida in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, giving them an option to replace Biadasz if his injury keeps him sidelined for an extended period.
Chargers Face Uncertainty at Center
The timing of Biadasz’s injury leaves Los Angeles with little time to settle its offensive line before the regular season.
The Chargers will host the 49ers on Thursday in their second preseason game, although Biadasz obviously will not participate.
With the veteran center now sidelined indefinitely, Slaughter and the Chargers’ other interior linemen will have an opportunity to prove they can keep the offense functioning at a high level.
For a team hoping to take another step forward around Herbert, losing a major offseason addition before the regular season is a significant setback.
