The Arizona Cardinals have reached an agreement with wide receiver Michael Wilson on a three-year contract extension worth $75 million, securing one of the team’s emerging offensive playmakers through the 2029 season.
The deal can reach $78 million in total value and includes $47 million guaranteed, according to reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Wilson, who had one year remaining on his rookie contract, becomes the latest member of Arizona’s young offensive core to receive a long-term commitment from the organization.
“It’s awesome,” Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said. “It is great for the Cardinals. It’s great for his teammates, this locker room. It’s good for our fanbase. Anyone that really knows Mike, I mean, you can’t help but root for the guy.”
Wilson Earns Major Payday After Breakout Season
Wilson entered the NFL as a third-round pick by Arizona in 2023 and steadily developed into an important part of the Cardinals’ passing game.
His biggest breakthrough came in 2025, when he surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the first time. Wilson finished the season with 78 receptions for 1,006 yards and seven touchdowns.
His production was particularly impressive after a slow start. Wilson had only 52 receiving yards through his first five games before finding his rhythm and becoming one of the Cardinals’ most productive offensive weapons.
The new extension gives Wilson an average annual value of $25 million. That figure places him around the top 20 among NFL wide receivers in annual salary, while his guaranteed money and overall contract value also rank among the league’s higher-paid receivers.
Contract Talks Lasted Through Training Camp
Wilson’s extension was the result of months of negotiations between his representatives and the Cardinals.
The two sides exchanged several offers during the offseason, with discussions occasionally going quiet for weeks. Wilson said he tried to remain removed from the negotiations so they would not interfere with his preparation on the field.
The situation appeared uncertain entering training camp. Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort had expressed doubt in early August that an agreement would be reached before the season.
The talks ultimately accelerated Wednesday night, allowing both sides to reach an agreement before the start of the regular season.
Wilson said the new contract represented the culmination of the people who believed in him and invested in his development.
“I don’t look at this as the end. This is the beginning of something great,” Wilson said.
Wilson Set to Lead Cardinals’ Receiving Corps
Wilson’s new deal reflects the Cardinals’ belief that his best football remains ahead of him.
The 26-year-old has become an increasingly important piece of Arizona’s offense and joins a young group that includes tight end Trey McBride and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
LaFleur believes Wilson still has considerable room for growth despite his breakout 2025 campaign.
“This is a special player who I don’t even think has even come close to reaching how good he could be,” LaFleur said.
Wilson also emphasized the personal significance of the extension. His father immigrated to the United States from Jamaica, while his mother moved from New Zealand. He said the contract will allow him to provide for his daughter and family for the rest of their lives.
After signing the extension, Wilson will remain under contract with Arizona through the 2029 season, giving the Cardinals a key piece of their offense for the next several years.
