BYU wins ugly, Utah State loses ugly, SUU beats Utah Tech, and Weber State battles in double overtime!

#6 BYU 4-0 (2-0 in the Big 12)

It was ugly, but a win is a win. BYU defeated TCU, 17-10 on Saturday night. The Cougars were battling the rain as well as the Horned Frogs, and battled injuries even harder. These factors slowed the offense, but the defense and Bear Bachmeier were too strong for TCU to pull off the upset. Bachmeier had two huge rushing touchdowns in the victory. The next questions for BYU are how long LJ Martin will be out and how long defenders like Isaiah Glasker will be out. BYU will host Iowa State at home this Friday night.

#8 Utah 4-0 (1-0 in the Big 12)

Utah had their bye this week. They’ll be back in action this coming Saturday at home against the Kansas Jayhawks

Utah State 1-4 (0-1 in the Pac-12)

Bronco Mendenhall’s Aggies had to go on the road to play Boise State on the Smurf Turf, and it went about as well as you’d expect for a team that lost at home to Idaho State. USU’s quarterbacks just can’t stop turning the football over and putting their defense in bad situations. Boise State racked up 429 yards of offense and 37 points, and USU fell, 37-18. The Aggies play on Friday in Pullman at Washington State. It will be a bitter battle as both teams are fighting to not be in the basement of the Pac-12. 2-4 going into the bye would be much better than 1-5.

Weber State 3-3 (2-1 in the Big Sky)

Weber State football is a family affair in Ogden, Utah. First-year head coach Eric Kjar took his team on the road to play Cal Poly. It was an overtime victory for the Wildcats, and it was due to family. Eric Kjar’s sons Tate and Noah combined for 10 catches for 168 yards and two touchdowns in the 42-34 double-overtime win. This week, Weber State will host the Idaho Vandals, who are fresh off an upset of #1 Montana State.

Utah Tech 0-6 (0-3 in the Big Sky)

When it rains, it pours for the Trailblazers (which is ironic considering they’re in one of the driest towns in America). Tech has now lost nine in a row dating back to last year. Head coach Lance Anderson is 3-27 through the first 30 games of his career as head coach in St. George. Will he make it to the end of the season or will there be a job opening at Utah Tech before the season is over?

Southern Utah 2-4 (1-2 in the Big Sky)

The Thunderbirds won the Battle of the Axe on the road in St. George. Southern Utah crushed Utah Tech. They made it look easy behind big games from their stars, Will Burns and Floyd Chalk. Chalk had 18 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown. Floyd Chalk has had at least 100 yards in every game this season. This year, he has 130 carries for 823 yards and eight touchdowns. More on Will Burns in a moment. Chalk, Burns, and SUU will have this coming week off and will welcome UC Davis to Cedar City on October 17th.

Roberts-Hall Award Player of the Week

Will Burns of Southern Utah is the player of the week. Burns had a great game, and SUU got a desperately needed win over rival Utah Tech. Will Burns was 8 of 11 for 124 yards and two touchdowns through the air. Burns did his most damage on the ground, carrying the ball 12 times for 187 yards and two touchdowns.
