Big 12 Football 2024 will be exciting with 16 teams. This will make the competition more open and with four more new teams the championship this December should be interesting after the departure of Texas and Oklahoma. Check out the BYU Cougar’s schedule below.
Team Overview from 2023
BYU didn’t have the best first season in the Big 12. They finished 5-7 and 2-7 in the Big 12. The Cougars averaged just over 300 yards on the offensive side of the ball which wasn’t enough to win more than five games. They didn’t fair well on the defensive side allowing over 400 yards per game. This season was a great test run but next year they will have to step it and bring more fight on gameday.
Schedule
Southern Illinois
There is no previous recorded matchup between these two teams. This game will be a win for the Cougars and will put the Cougars off to a great start in 2024.
SMU
These two last met in 2022 and BYU beat them 24-23 in the New Mexico Bowl. This matchup is at four games and BYU has all those wins. That will change this fall when the Cougars fall to SMU.
Wyoming
This has always been a great matchup and it gets to add another game to its resume when they meet this fall. In 2022 BYU won 38-24 and it’s been played over 70 times over the years. This time around BYU will get another win in this matchup and get its second of the season.
Kansas State
The last time these two met Lavell Edwards was head coach. In 1997 they won the Cotton Bowl 19-15. This matchup sits at a tie of eight games and BYU will lose this game and be at 2-2 on the season.
Baylor
Baylor has taken on BYU four times over the years. The last time BYU won 26-20 in 2022. This time around they will lose this game and untie the series. This will add to the Cougar’s loss column and put them at 2-3 on the year.
Arizona
The Wildcats will be in Provo on Oct 12 to take on BYU. In 2021 BYU won 24-16 in the last game between these two teams. This matchup is tied at 12 wins a piece with one tie. Game predictions are that BYU will lose this game.
Oklahoma State
These two met on the gridiron last season and the Cowboys won 40-34. They have all three wins of this series and will also get the next one this fall.
UCF
UCF and BYU last faced off in 2020 in the Boca Raton Bowl where the Cougars won 49-23. This matchup sits at three games and the Knights have won two. They will also get the next win and put BYU at 2-6 in 2024.
Utah
The holy war will continue this fall in Salt Lake City. In 2021 this game took place in Provo and the Cougars came away with the 26-17 win. This matchup is 59-32-4 in favor of the Utes and they will get the next win in this series.
Kansas
Last season these two faced off and Kansas won 38-27. This matchup is at 2-0 in favor of the Jayhawks and they will get the third win of it. This will put BYU at 2-8 in 2024.
Arizona State
BYU won the last matchup in 2021, 27-17 in Provo. Arizona State holds this series as it has been played 28 times. The Cougars will win this game and be at 3-8 on the year.
Houston
Houston and BYU last faced off in 2020 and the Cougars won 43-26. This matchup has been played three times and BYU has all three of those wins. They will also get the one this year and finish the season at 4-8 missing yet another Bowl Game in the Sitake Era.
