Auburn added another significant piece to its 2027 recruiting class on Monday, securing a commitment from four-star offensive tackle Layton von Brandt after a late push from first-year coach Alex Golesh and his staff.

The 6-foot-6 lineman from Middletown, Delaware, chose the Tigers over Notre Dame, Florida and Penn State, giving Auburn another highly rated addition in Golesh’s first recruiting cycle.

Auburn Continues Momentum on Recruiting Trail

Von Brandt enters the class as one of the nation’s top offensive line prospects. ESPN ranks him as the No. 6 offensive tackle and No. 40 overall prospect in the 2027 class, while other recruiting services also place him among the country’s elite linemen.

His commitment marks another recruiting victory for Auburn after the program previously landed four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook. The Tigers now hold multiple top-100 pledges and continue climbing the national recruiting rankings.

Von Brandt had previously been committed to Penn State before reopening his recruitment. Notre Dame appeared to emerge as a strong contender late in the process, but Auburn’s push ultimately shifted the momentum.

Relationship Building Helped Seal Decision

A key factor in Auburn’s success came from the relationship between von Brandt and offensive line coach Tyler Hudanick.

Von Brandt previously described Auburn as feeling like “a special place” after visiting campus, while noting consistent communication with Hudanick throughout the recruiting process.

The standout tackle also arrives with notable credentials beyond national rankings. Recruiting services rank him as the highest-rated prospect from Delaware during the ESPN recruiting era, and he surpassed former NFL wide receiver Chris Godwin as the state’s highest-ranked recruit in those rankings.

While the Auburn Tigers secured his commitment, the recruitment may still continue. Von Brandt still has official visits scheduled in the coming weeks, meaning the Tigers will likely continue working to solidify the pledge ahead of signing day.
