The Cubs

Up until a couple of weeks ago, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that the Chicago Cubs were going to try and unload Cody Bellingerand Marcus Stroman. Now, we need to pump the brakes and look a little closer.

The Cubs have won seven straight and nine of their last 10. They’re going for their eighth straight win tonight.
It seems the Cardinals might want to offload Willson Contreras. I would love to see him back in Cubbie Blue, and hey, why not go after Max Scherzer or Justin Verlander…. or how about throw 2/3 of the farm system at the Angels for Shohei Ohtani? That sounds like a good plan to me. Given my choice, Ohtani is my first pick.

Favorite Trades of the Past

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

In my 49 years as a die-hard Cubs’ fan, there have only been a few trades at the deadline that really got me excited. The trade in 2003 that got Aramis Ramirez, Kenny Lofton and Randal Simon from the Pirates as I was a huge Lofton fan at the time (still am) but the best part of that deal turned out to be Ramirez. Then, in 2004, I literally jumped out of bed when I heard we had gotten Nomar Garciaparra in a four-team deal. I was so stoked on that deal, but Nomar fizzled out quickly. Then, in 2013, we hit paydirt with the Jake Arietta trade from Baltimore. Finally, in 2016 when we got Aroldis Chapman from the Yankee’s for the last half of the season.

The Cubs Need to Make a Move

The Ricketts family have proven in the past they are willing to make deals and do what it takes, but it seems to me since we won the World Series in 2016, they have kind of rested on their laurels, am I wrong?

I would love nothing more than to see the Cubs make a splash at the deadline or just before for someone who can really be a difference maker. Like, say, maybe someone like Ohtani hahaha! Oh well, We can all dream, can’t we?
