The Detroit Lions continue to invest in their football operations after hiring former Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier as a personnel executive. The move adds another experienced evaluator to general manager Brad Holmes’ front office as Detroit looks to build on its recent success and maintain its status among the NFL’s contenders.
Veteran Executive Brings Decades Of Experience
Grier arrives in Detroit after spending more than two decades with the Miami Dolphins organization. He joined the franchise in 2000 and steadily climbed the ranks before becoming general manager in 2016.
During his tenure, Miami posted five winning seasons and reached the playoffs three times. Although the Dolphins failed to secure a postseason victory under Grier’s leadership, he earned recognition for identifying and acquiring talent through both the draft and trades.
His personnel résumé includes helping build teams featuring players such as Laremy Tunsil, Xavien Howard, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Jaylen Waddle, De’Von Achane and Andrew Van Ginkel.
Another Trusted Voice For Brad Holmes
Detroit’s front office has undergone several changes in recent years as successful executives earned promotions elsewhere. The additions of experienced football minds have helped Holmes maintain continuity while expanding the organization’s scouting and evaluation departments.
Grier’s relationship with Holmes dates back years through their shared scouting backgrounds. Holmes previously transformed the Lions from a rebuilding franchise into a consistent contender, and Grier has publicly praised both Holmes’ leadership style and his ability to build strong professional relationships throughout the league.
The hire also gives Detroit another former NFL general manager alongside senior personnel executive John Dorsey.
