The St. Louis Battlehawks outflew the Columbus Aviators

St. Louis 31, Columbus 20

Fresh off beating Louisville on the road, St. Louis returned home to take on Columbus. The Battlehawks had a tough task, even with hapless Columbus. St. Louis was starting a new quarterback against the Aviators. Luis Perez did a solid job in his debut game. Perez would lead St. Louis to victory and finish the game with 204 passing yards, a passing touchdown, and a rushing touchdown.

St. Louis had a strong ground game against Columbus, gaining 97 yards on 27 carries and rushing for three touchdowns. Jarveon Howard led the way with 44 yards, and Kylin James had 41 yards and two touchdowns. Hakeem Butler was his usual epic self in catching the football. He had a big, 46-yard reception and would finish the game with three catches for 77 yards.

Fast, High-Flying Start

St. Louis would get off to a hot start in this win and answer Columbus every time the Aviators tried to fight back. Each time Columbus would score a touchdown, St. Louis would answer with a touchdown of their own or, in the case of the fourth quarter, would run the clock late with an insurmountable lead.

The Battlehawks outflew the Aviators. St. Louis scored on each possession in the first half. The Battlehawks would have three touchdown drives and one for a field goal to have a 24-10 lead at halftime. They never let Columbus in the game. The Aviators got an early third-quarter touchdown after an interception, but St. Louis answered with a touchdown of their own. They built a lead that Columbus just couldn’t catch.

On the Horizon

With the win, the St. Louis Battlehawks sit in first place in the UFL standings! They’ll welcome the Houston Gamblers to the Battledome next week. St. Louis will follow that up with a game in Houston before wrapping up the regular season at home against Dallas.
