New England Patriots rookie defender Quintayvious Hutchins pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a domestic assault and battery charge in Newton District Court in Massachusetts.
Hutchins, 23, was arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery against a family or household member and was released on personal recognizance. The court set a pretrial hearing for June 29.
The Patriots addressed the situation in a statement Wednesday.
“We are aware of the report involving Quintayvious Hutchins,” the team said. “We take these matters very seriously and are in the process of gathering additional information.”
Alleged Incident Occurred at Boston College
According to court documents and police reports, the alleged incident took place Tuesday at a residence hall on the campus of Boston College.
Police said a residence hall assistant reported hearing a man and woman arguing in the hallway before allegedly witnessing Hutchins push the woman and place his hand around her neck.
According to the report, Hutchins allegedly referred to the woman as a “cheater” during the altercation.
Police said the woman later told officers “nothing happened” and declined to have photographs taken of her neck.
Authorities also stated Hutchins told police he had been holding the woman’s phone and later threw it after getting his ring back.
Patriots Selected Hutchins in Seventh Round
The Patriots drafted Hutchins with the 247th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL draft.
The 6-foot-3, 245-pound edge defender spent five seasons at Boston College, appearing in 43 games with 16 starts while recording nine career sacks. Hutchins served as a team captain during the 2025 season.
He participated in the Patriots’ rookie minicamp last weekend before reportedly leaving early because of an apparent injury.
Hutchins joins a Patriots edge group that includes Harold Landry III, Dre’Mont Jones, Bradyn Swinson and fellow rookies Gabe Jacas and Xavier Holmes.
