The upcoming Monday’s baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Miami Marlins has been rescheduled due to an extraordinary celestial event – a total solar eclipse.
The Yankees made this announcement on Thursday, alerting fans and players alike about the change in schedule.
Game Reschedule Details
Originally, they had scheduled the game to commence at 2:05 p.m. ET. However, due to the solar eclipse, they will now delay the game by four hours.
They have set the new start time for the game at 6:05 p.m. ET. In light of this change, the gates at Yankee Stadium will now open at 3 p.m. ET.
Special Event: Yankees Solar Eclipse T-Shirt
To mark this unique event, the first 15,000 fans making their way into the stadium will receive a special Yankees Solar Eclipse T-Shirt. This is a gesture to acknowledge their support and adaptability in the face of this schedule change.
Official Statement from the Yankees
The team released a statement on Thursday explaining the reason behind the reschedule.
“After reconsidering the challenges of playing through Monday’s solar eclipse, including potential in-game delays, Major League Baseball and the Yankees have rescheduled the start time of the Yankees-Marlins game on April 8 at Yankee Stadium from 2:05 p.m. to 6:05 p.m.”
Visibility of the Eclipse
The solar eclipse will start to be visible in New York City from 2:10 p.m. ET on Monday. However, spectators at the Yankee Stadium in the Bronx will only be able to witness a partial solar eclipse due to the path of totality. It’s worth noting that several cities across New York are within the path of totality.
Impact on Other MLB Teams
The solar eclipse isn’t just affecting the Yankees and Marlins. Several other teams around the Major League Baseball (MLB) will also be within the path of totality.
This includes the Texas Rangers who will be hosting the Houston Astros and the Cleveland Guardians who will be hosting the Chicago White Sox. However, both of these games are scheduled to take place after the eclipse.
Yankees’ Performance and Upcoming Matches
The Yankees have had a hot start to their season and they will be looking to continue their winning streak as they host the Marlins on Monday.
With a current record of 6-1, the Yankees are set to take on the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game home series this weekend.
Following the series with the Blue Jays, the Yankees will stay at home for another three-game series with the Marlins.
Marlins’ Performance and Challenges
On the other hand, the Marlins are having a contrasting start to their season, still in search of their first win after eight games.
Marlins’ star player, Jazz Chisholm Jr., attributed some of Miami’s early struggles to field shadows below the open roof at LoanDepot Park. Given these circumstances, it’s probably for the best that the Marlins stay off the field during the eclipse.
