Next up in the draft process is the Wisconsin Pro Day. This is when players can get one more chance to show off their skills to NFL scouts. This is even more important for players who did not receive an NFL Scouting Combine invitation. The Wisconsin Pro Day will take place on March 15th.
Wisconsin Pro Day Information
As of now, four Badgers can be expected to participate in the Wisconsin Pro Day. If there is confirmation of more, the list will have updates. Three of the following players did receive an invitation to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. The players will be in order of position. Here is a look at the expected participants at the 2024 Wisconsin Pro Day, including their draft projections.
Tanner Mordecai – QB
After six years of playing college football, quarterback Tanner Mordecai is heading to the 2024 NFL Draft. Mordecai did not spend all of his time with Wisconsin. He began with Oklahoma for three years, followed by two with SMU, and just this past season with Wisconsin. In his six years, Mordecai had 850 completions for 8,857 yards and 85 touchdowns, according to Sports Reference. He also threw 27 interceptions. His completion percentage is 66.4.
Mordecai is expected to be an undrafted free agent this year. He did not receive an invite to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine and will need to use the Wisconsin Pro Day to make up for what he missed out on at the Combine. Most of the judgment comes from actual games, but Mordecai can show why he will be a valuable depth piece for a team, which is important to have.
Braelon Allen – RB
Running back, Braelon Allen is another player expected to participate in the Pro Day. Allen did receive an invitation to the Combine and can get another chance to impress scouts. Allen spent three years with Wisconsin, and that was all he needed to show he was ready for the NFL. In his three years, Allen rushed the ball 597 times for 3,494 yards and 35 touchdowns, according to Sports Reference. He also had 49 receptions for 275 yards.
Allen is a fourth-round projection this year. He is a player who can get into the end zone. He could be better at receiving, but as a rusher he is solid. Braelon is a physical player that can develop in the league. Watch for him on the third day of the draft, as he could be a solid late-round player.
Tanor Bortolini – C
Wisconsin center, Tanor Bortolini is also an expected participant. Bortolini spent four years with the Badgers. He is one of the players from Wisconsin to receive an invitation to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. His current projection is to go in the seventh round of the draft. This year’s draft is stacked with offensive linemen, and his name will be one to watch for on day three. What will help him is that while he is a center, he can be moved to guard if needed. He is a solid run blocker, and teams will like him for that, though he could be better at blocking during the passing game. He had a strong combine, which will help him move up in this year’s draft.
Maema Njongmeta – LB
Linebacker Maema Njongmeta is another player expected to participate in the Wisconsin Pro Day. Njongmeta did receive an invitation to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. After five years with Wisconsin, he is heading to the 2024 NFL Draft. In his four years, Njongmeta had 18 total tackles, 80 solo, 20 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks, according to Sports Reference. He has also defended two passes and had one interception and three fumble recoveries.
While he did receive an invitation to the Combine, he does not have a high draft projection. He is still an expected undrafted free agent. At the combine, he ran a 4.91 for his 49, according to Draft Scout. Njongmeta is a solid player, but when compared to others in the position, the expectation is that he will fall.
The Wisconsin Pro Day will take place on March 15th. Players will also have chances to have pre-draft visits with players. After that, it’s the 2024 NFL Draft. The draft will take place April 25th-27th.
