With the World Series between the LA Dodgers and the New York Yankees beginning on Friday, October 25, the Yankees will look ahead to the 2025 season after that.
With the big decision of Juan Soto riding on their backs, they will also have to determine if Jazz Chisholm Jr. will also be joining their 2025 roster.
Will Jazz Chisholm Jr. Be On the New York Yankees Roster in 2025?
When Chisholm Jr. was traded from the Miami Marlins to the New York Yankees, both teams felt they were doing the right thing for him to flourish and compete for a World Series title.
In his first four at-bats with the Yanks, the charismatic third baseman had four home runs in his first three games.
It was only a small sample size, but the newest Yankee was already producing short-term results.
He also came in with confidence and a “can-do” spirit that rubbed off on his teammates.
To describe it in totality, Chisholm Jr. simply wanted to do whatever it took to bring a 28th World Series Title back to the Bronx.
Chisholm Jr. finished the regular season batting .256 with 40 stolen bases and 24 home runs.
He also finished with a .760 OPS and looked like the same player who debuted with the Marlins in 2020.
Postseason Slump
Unfortunately for Chisholm Jr., his positive vibes started melting away like his slumping batting average.
He finished the postseason with a .119 batting average, (1) RBI, and (2) stolen bases.
Chisholm Jr. started making controversial headlines and statements that made the Marlins want to trade him in the first place.
He alienated the Kansas City Royals fans when, after Game 2 of the American League Division Series, he quoted that the Royals “got lucky” to win that game.
This led to him taking in all the Royals fans who “booed him” in games 3 and 4 at Kauffman Stadium.
While the narcissist in him enjoyed it, manager Aaron Boone did not.
The Yankees manager talked to Chisholm Jr. and told him to stay focused on the rest of the MLB playoffs’ turbulence.
Can Chisholm fit the “Yankee Way” Moving Forward?
While Chisholm Jr. is a good player and has helped the Yankees make the World Series, in his defensive play at third base, he will have to be better at his bats.
The 26-year-old has struggled, only hitting 2 for 19 in the beginning of October.
Chisholm Jr. will also have to stay focused and keep his comments about other teams to himself.
The Yankees didn’t mind taking him because he would be joining a team with a $300 million payroll and would have the chance to play for a World Series title alongside superstars Aaron Judge and Soto.
Overall, both teams did the right thing for Chisholm Jr. and their own teams’ futures.
What’s Next
Win or lose this upcoming World Series against the Dodgers, the Yankees would like to keep Chisholm Jr.
But they have bigger fish to fry in resigning Soto, whose market keeps going up with every postseason home run or victory.
The strong-armed athlete is great at stolen bases but has a huge salary for a role and a position that is a dime a dozen in today’s game.
The Yankees could consider eliminating Chisholm’s Jr. salary and possibly calling up Oswald Peraza or Jasson Dominguez full-time next year as more personable, less cost-effective base stealers than Chisholm Jr.
What do you say, Yankees fans?
Will Jazz Chisholm Jr. be on the New York Yankees Roster in 2025?
Should the Yankees keep someone like Chisholm Jr. on his salary or dump it and focus on resigning Soto?
