College baseball for the state of Utah continued the 2025 season this week.

Utah Valley, BYU, and Utah Tech made their conference tournaments. They all fought hard, but only one would punch their ticket to the big dance!

UVU (32-27, 13-11 in the WAC)

It didn’t look good for Utah Valley coming into the WAC Tournament. The Wolverines lost 10 of their last 11 games, going from 27-17 to 28-27. Utah Valley got the tournament off to a good start, slamming UT-Arlington in their first game,17-7.

They took their second game, this one against a 3-1, victory over Abilene Christian that sent Utah Valley to the WAC Semifinals. Trailing 1-0 in the top of the ninth, CJ Colyer sent this pitch for a ride to give the Wolverines their 30th win of 2025!

On Friday, UVU took on regular-season co-champion Sacramento State, and the Wolverines crushed them 9-1. UVU will now play in the WAC Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday against ACU.

Saturday’s game was a close one but UVU prevailed! The Wolverines beat ACU 11-9. They won the WAC Tournament Championship and punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament!

The Wolverines of Utah Valley will be in the Eugene Regional against the host Oregon Ducks, Cal Poly, and the Arizona Wildcats! It’s a very tough draw for the Wolverines, but you know they’ll give a good account of themselves and represent baseball in the Beehive State well! They’ll battle Oregon on Friday night, May 30th, at 7:00 PM Orem time.

BYU (28-27, 11-20 in the Big 12)

BYU won their first game against Arizona State with a 2-0 shutout on Wednesday! That’s the Cougars’ first Big 12 Tournament win in their first appearance in the conference postseason.

They fell on Thursday, 4-1 to Arizona, bringing BYU’s 2025 season to an end. BYU improved from last year. In 2024, they went 21-31 overall and 7-23 in the Big 12. Overall, they had seven more wins and four fewer losses, improving by 11 games. In the Big 12, they had four more wins and three fewer losses, improving by seven games. Trent Pratt’s team finished with enough strength to make the conference tournament and win a game in it before their season ended. That achievement and their overall improvement show that good things will come in 2026 for BYU Baseball.

Utah Tech (24-31, 9-15 in the WAC)

Utah Tech won their first game of the WAC Tournament on Tuesday over California Baptist. The Trailblazers won in extra innings, upsetting California Baptist 6-5 in 11 innings.

Wednesday, the one-run game was on the proverbial other foot as Tech fell 7-6 to Grand Canyon University. They then faced Abilene Christian, fresh off their heartbreaking loss to Utah Valley, in the second of a doubleheader for ACU. Sadly, the Trailblazers’ season came to an end on Thursday night in a 9-5 loss to ACU. Tech has room to grow, but it has to be remembered that this is only their fifth season in Division I. Utah Tech is determined to add St. George to the list of great sports towns in the Beehive State.

The Utah Utes’ season ended last week.
