College baseball in the Beehive State intensifies as teams across Utah push for the postseason.
Utah (20-26, 7-20 in the Big 12)
The Utes beat their counterparts from Orem 8-2 on Tuesday. On Friday, they upset #22 Arizona in Tucson, 8-6. On Saturday, they took the series with their 13-5 victory. Sunday, the Utes’ three-game winning streak came to an end as Arizona won the final game of the series, 8-7.
Despite their success this weekend, Utah is still last in the Big 12. Utah will travel down I-15 to play BYU on Tuesday before hosting TCU in Salt Lake City for their final regular-season series of 2025. To secure a spot in the Big 12 Tournament, Utah will need to win this week and hope that some teams ahead of them lose, otherwise they’ll play their last baseball of the year against TCU.
UVU (28-24, 13-11 in the WAC)
Utah Valley fell to the Utes in Salt Lake City on Tuesday. They bounced back strong on Friday against Sacramento State with a 14-2 win at home in Orem. Sacramento State struck back with a 12-2 win on Saturday. However, Sacramento State took the series with a 9-2 win on Sunday.
The Wolverines will finish their regular season with a series on the road at San Francisco starting on Wednesday.
BYU (24-25, 8-19 in the Big 12)
BYU stopped in Wichita on their way to Lawrence. They beat the Wichita State Shockers 9-2 before battling the Jayhawks. They took game one on Thursday in Lawrence, upsetting Kansas 7-5. Friday, the Jayhawks struck back with a big 10-1 victory. Saturday, in the rubber match, it was close between BYU and Kansas but the Jayhawks ultimately won, 7-6.
Right now, only Utah is further down the Big 12 Standings. While that normally may comfort BYU fans, it leaves them out of the Big 12 Tournament at the moment. BYU will have to play their way in this week. BYU plays their last four games of the regular season at home, starting with a visit from the Utes on Tuesday before a weekend series against Texas Tech.
Utah Tech (21-27, 7-14 in the WAC)
Utah Tech’s road game against UNLV was cancelled due to rain. How often does UNLV or Utah Tech get games in Las Vegas or St. George cancelled because of rain? The Trailblazers began their weekend series against UT-Arlington on a sour note, losing 11-1. On Saturday, Tech took game two in a 10-8 shootout win. On Sunday, they took the series with a 9-7 victory. The Trailblazers won their last home series, and on Senior Day in St. George.
Utah Tech will close their regular season with a road trip to California. On they’ll play UC-Davis before finishing with a weekend series at Sacramento State.
