Catch the spicy Houston Roughnecks and DC Defenders game in week 2 of the UFL on Sunday, the 7th. If not, I’m here with a recap. If you have, you’ll still enjoy the recap.
Make sure to catch all of The Forkball’s extensive content on the UFL here.
Team Deets
If you’re a Houston Roughneck fan, things have been hard the last few weeks. The team is in last place in the ‘USFL’ conference. Things are only slightly better for the DC Defenders, who are third in the ‘XFL’ conference.
For Houston Gambler fans, the Roughnecks are their continuation post-USFL. What is a rough neck? Who knows. The DC defenders have had the name since 2020, no matter the league. Both teams have a lot of untapped talent but no show-outs that are topping the UFL’s stat charts.
Buck up, fans. It’s only been two weeks. Anything could happen in the upcoming weeks!
The Defenders-Roughnecks Sunday Game
The DC Defenders hosted the game at the Audi Stadium. 15,000 attendees had their backs on Sunday, and the home advantage was tangible.
Boy, what a game it was!
Houston’s Corn Elder came through for the team, giving the Roughnecks their first lead in the first quarter. The cornerback converted an interception into a 98-yard return TD. However, the lead was short-lived, with the Defenders responding with a TD, leaving the score 6-6.
J.J. Molson has a kicking leg of gold. His two successful field goals in the second quarter allowed Houston to keep up with the Defenders. Tight end Briley Moore-McKinney scored the second TD for DC in between Molson’s field goals. The half ended 12-12, with hope and optimism for all.
Houston had to bench their starting QB, Jarrett Guarantano, due to a back injury. Reid Sinnett took his place and began shining immediately.
Sinnett connected with wide receiver Keke Chism to once again take the lead (18-12). The DC Defenders were able to make a field goal but were still lagging behind Houston at 18-15.
Defenders QB Jordan Ta’amu is likely to become the bright star DC needs with further development. It was his 17-yard completion to wide receiver Ty Scott that sealed the deal for the Defenders, leaving the game 23-18.
Unlocking UFL Week 3:
The DC Defenders are facing off against the Arlington Renegades on Saturday, the 13th, at 1 PM in Texas. ESPN will be broadcasting the game.
It’s going down in the south! Saturday night, at 7 PM, the Memphis Showboats will be battling it out with the Birmingham Stallions in ‘Bama. Fox is where you’ll find this game online.
The Michigan Panthers and Houston Roughnecks are first up on Sunday at noon in Detroit. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
The second ABC-broadcast game will be last on the roster on Sunday at 3 PM. The St. Louis Battlehawks and San Antonio Brahmas will show- up in Texas.
Who do I think will win each one? The DC defenders will take the first game. It’s going to be a close one Saturday night, but I predict the Almighty Stallions will win. Based on past performances, I assume the Panthers will take it, but it could go either way. San Antonio will take away the Sunday afternoon game.
