We are three weeks into the regular season. Plenty can happen in the 10-game season, but we’re starting to get an idea of how each team is going to perform this season.
Things are looking up for the Michigan Panthers (2-1). The same cannot be said for the Houston Roughnecks (0-3).
The Week 3 Game
Injuries have not made Houston’s life easy. Not that it can fully explain them going blown out of the water the way they did.
Roughnecks quarterback Reid Sinnett played his first full game after taking over for injured Jarrett Guarantano last week. He was second worst in terms of overall UFL passing stats, next only after Guarantano. It showed.
Although not at the beginning of the game. Sinnett started strong, capitalizing on his opening drive by achieving an TD.
Michigan responded with a field goal, and in their next possession, they took the lead 9-8 after E.J. Perry got a TD.
At least the game was exhilarating in the first half. Both teams traded touchdowns in the second quarter, finishing the half out 12-11 with the Panthers leading.
Marcus Simms connected with E.J. Perry in the third quarter for a TD. The drive ended in a two-point conversion. Michigan was leading 20-11 right away.
Molson attempted to save the day with another solid field goal, but still left the team down by a TD at 20-14.
The third quarter was pretty much a wash for Houston. Two rushing TDs by EJ Perry had them way ahead at 34-14.
Houston didn’t go down without a fight. Sinnett worked together with Justin Hall for the final TD of the game. It wasn’t enough, though, and the game ended with the score sitting at 34-20.
Any given Sunday, Houston, any given Sunday.
UFL Goings-On Next Week
In week 4, the Memphis Showboats are going to battle with the St. Louis Battlehawks first on Saturday, April 20th, at 12:30 PM ET. Also, on Saturday, the D.C. Defenders and Birmingham Stallions will face off at 7 PM ET.
In a change of pace, Saturday will also have a third game at 7 PM as well. The third game will be the Michigan Panthers versus the San Antonio Brahmas.
On Sunday, April 21st, the lone game will be at 2 PM EST in Houston, Texas, where the Houston Roughnecks will have a chance to turn things around against the Arlington Renegades.
My favorite Week 4 game? The Michigan Panthers vs. San Antonio Brahmas game. Both teams are second in their respective divisions and have the same win-loss record (2-1). An equally matched game with two teams who have talent? That’s something to keep an eye out for.
The Michigan Panthers also have both Samson and Kai Nacua, Puka Nacua’s brothers. That’s a tough roster to beat. We will absolutely be hearing more from the Nakua brothers this season.
