The Penn State Nittany Lions came into this season with wide receiver questions, but tight end Tyler Warren is taking measures into his own hands. The tight end has been having a strong two games and it looks as though the team will stick with the momentum. Here is a look at Warren’s 2024 season so far and his role with the Nittany Lions offense this year.

Tyler Warren in 2024

It has been a big season for Warren already and there have only been two games in 2024. He already broke a program record this season. Warren now has the most receiving yards in a single game by a tight end. Against the Bowling Green Falcons, Warren had 146 receiving yards, according to ESPN. Penn State had a rough game, and although Warren did not score, he helped bring his team to a win after being down.

It says a lot about a player when quarterback, Drew Allar throws for just 204 yards, and 119 of them were from one player. Between the run game and Warren, Penn State was able to win the game against Bowling Green.

As for the 2024 season so far, Warren has been doing a lot for his team. In two games, Warren has had 11 receptions for 176 yards and one touchdown, according to Sports Reference. Penn State is doing well running the ball, but there are still question marks at the wide receiver position. The bright side about Warren doing so well is that no one receiver has to carry the passing game on their shoulders.

Tyler Warren with the Penn State Nittany Lions

Warren has been with the Nittany Lions since 2020 where he appeared in just two games for Penn State. Since then, his role has gradually grown with the team. This is his fifth year, and he is already being a name discussed in college football. In five years, Warren has had 60 receptions for 782 yards and 12 touchdowns, according to Sports Reference. He also has had two rushing touchdowns which came in 2021. He is a top red zone target, which will be a big part of this team this year. Warren had over 400 targets in 2022 and is already on pace to beat that.

Being a tight end, Warren has the size standing at six feet and six inches, to make the difficult catches over the defensive backs. The place he will likely remain the most utilized is on scoring drives into the endzone and third-down plays. Evidently, Warren can get open and make Allar’s life easier. Watch for him to continue to grow as a tight end in his fifth season with the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Other Receivers on the Team

With Warren being likely the top receiver on the team this year, who else is there to take a load off of him a bit? The second player to watch for this year is wide receiver Harrison Wallace III. When he gets the ball, he can do a lot. While Warren has had 11 receptions, Wallace has had five. But with five receptions, Wallace has had 117 receptions and two touchdowns, according to ESPN. While Warren will likely be the top target for Allar, continue watching for Wallace to step up.

There have only been two weeks of the season so far. The Penn State Nittany Lions have a bye this week. This gives them two weeks to rest their bodies and prepare for their week four game against the Kent State Golden Flashes. There are still times for other receivers to step up. There was one bad game, it is how the Nittany Lions bounce back that matters the most.
