Tybo Rogers, a player for Washington Huskies, was arrested on Friday and charged with two counts of rape that allegedly occurred during the 2023 football season, according to King 5 News in Seattle.
Rogers faces charges of second- and third-degree rape. He also posted bail set at $150,000, as per court documents cited by King 5.
University Response
In response to the arrest, the University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletics Department said. “The student-athlete has been suspended from all team activities until further notice. The UW will continue to gather facts and cooperate with law enforcement, as requested.”
Timeline of Events
Rogers was suspended from team activities in November, following the alleged rapes, and did not participate in the Pac-12 championship game on Dec. 1, reported by King 5. However, he later played in the College Football Playoff semifinal and championship games.
“As soon as we found out about any allegations, [we] suspended him indefinitely from the program.“ Said UW coach Jedd Fisch, who was hired in January to replace Kalen DeBoer after DeBoer left to coach at Alabama following the season.
Police Investigation
As of Tuesday evening, there were no records of Rogers’ arrest on the King County Court online portal. However, the Seattle Police Department’s blog indicated that an 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with two rape cases, which aligns with King 5’s report about Rogers.
Seattle police reported that the investigation into Rogers began with a rape report in October 2023 in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, involving a 19-year-old victim. Another incident in November 2023 in the University District also involved Rogers as the suspect and a 22-year-old victim. Detectives established probable cause for both assaults.
Efforts to reach a police spokesperson for comment on Tuesday evening were unsuccessful.
Player Background
Rogers, a freshman in 2023, rushed 44 times for 184 yards and had six receptions for 72 yards. He was a three-star recruit from Bakersfield High School in California’s Class of 2023.
