The Detroit Tigers dominated the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday with a final score of 13-1. This decisive victory allowed the Tigers to take three out of four games in the series on the road. They’re in first place in the AL Central with the Cleveland Guardians and Kansas City Royals nipping at their heels.
Whoa, Halos
The Angels went on an impressive seven-game losing streak prior to Saturday’s game against the Tigers. That happened by way of Kyle Hendricks who pitched seven and two thirds innings and notched his first win of the for the Angels and for the 2025 season. The team has been struggling for answers across the board, particularly on the offensive side. They’re in last place in the AL West with a despicable -64 Run Differential. Mike Trout appears genetically predetermined to be annually injured after being placed on the 10-day IL yet again. This time by way of knee contusion, or in layman’s terms, it’s a bruise. With that being said, the Angels aren’t out of it just yet.
Winning the game by such a margin moved the Tigers into first place in the division and they leapfrogged the entire league by way of Run Differential. They currently have a one-run lead over the Cubs in that department, who scored a goose egg on the day.
Key Points
- Marks the Tigers’ highest scoring series since May 2013 against the Houston Astros
- Trey Sweeney went 4-for-5 with 6 RBIs and a HR, Kerry Carpenter went 4-for-6 with 5 RBIs and a HR
- Offense stole the show but pitching was also dominant
- Zach Neto extended his hitting streak to 10 games
- The Angels won 3 of the 4 games in the series
The Tigers showcased an exceptional offensive performance while the pitching shut down the opposing offense. They’re currently one of the hottest teams in baseball, and get to coast through the next few games against the Colorado Rockies, who haven’t even mustered up 10 wins on the season.
