Sevilla Fútbol Club has been around since 1890, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Spain along with Recreativo de Huelva. They even played in the first official football match in Spain and won 2-0.

Over the years, Sevilla has won La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Cups/Europa League multiple times. Prominent players like Diego Maradona, Sergio Ramos, and Ivan Rakitić have played for Sevilla FC, which clearly shows why this club has a rich history.

History

In its early years, Sevilla FC was basically the top dog in its area when it came to football. They dominated the Championships of Andalusia, winning sixteen out of nineteen from 1917 to 1940, and coming in second in the other three. They also won two Copa del Rey titles in 1935 and 1939.

La Liga title

So, those two cups were like a sign of what was coming. In 1946, Sevilla surprised everyone by winning La Liga, beating Barcelona by just one point. They also snagged another Copa del Rey in 1948. But after that, things quieted down for a while. Even though they stayed competitive in Spanish football, a financial crisis in the 70s led to them getting relegated to the Segunda Division multiple times over the next 30 years.

Accumulating UEFA trophies

The club got a big boost in the new century when Juande Ramos became head coach. Thanks to him, Sevilla made a comeback in football by winning two UEFA Cups in a row in 2006 and 2007. They also snagged the Copa del Rey in 2007 and again in 2010.

Despite having to sell off their top players during another financial crisis, Sevilla surprised everyone by winning three UEFA Europa Leagues in 2014, 2015, and 2016, cementing its legacy in the history of football. Since the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Europa League are basically the same thing, these wins made Sevilla the most successful club in the tournament’s history.

The logo has a shield with three parts and a soccer ball in the middle. The top left has the Coat of arms of Seville, and the top right has “SFC” for Sevilla Fútbol Club. The logo has pretty much stayed the same since 1921, but before that, it was just the initials in a circle.
