It’s no secret that the Edge Rushing position is becoming one of the more valuable roles on an NFL team.
Coaches say that the players who sack the quarterback are the ones who put their hands in the dirt.
They are also the players who can “change the game” by getting the defense off the field. One player on the Bills’ team has been doing just that.
Since being drafted late in 2021, Greg Rosseau’s hands must be washed after most games.
The 2021 first-round draft pick has totaled 20 sacks over his productive career thus far, earning him a long-term contract.
Earning of a Long Term Contract
The quarterbacks get paid the most money in the free-agent market. At the same time, the edge rushers are a close second.
Yes, the quarterback gets all the fame and all the glory. Modern-day edge rushers are trying to become the signal callers on defenses.
You have guys like Nick and Joey Bosa, who have been sacking the QB since draft day.
Additionally, you have Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence, who aren’t afraid even to chase Patrick Mahomes around and put pressure on him.
Number 50 has definitely improved each year and should be in the same category as the guys previously mentioned. Why wouldn’t the Buffalo Bills pay him?
Second Coming of another Famous Bills Edge Rusher?
Rousseau, in Bill’s perception, is slowly becoming the 2020 version of Bruce Smith.
During the Bills’ Super Bowl run, Smith was a player you knew could flip a game in the Bills’ direction when they needed a big sack on third down.
In fact, when Rousseau was drafted, Smith immediately saw another version of himself with Buffalo Bills number 50.
When he arrived in Buffalo, the two started working together, and this was the start of a budding career right before our eyes.
Show Him the Wealth
Every time “Groot” makes a game-altering hit on the quarterback, Bills fans echo, “Pay the man.” Why shouldn’t we pay him? He’s 6’7″, 267 lbs, and has a quick burst off the line of scrimmage.
His plays ooze with athleticism and flashiness, and people often forget how humble the man is.
Rousseau fits McDermott’s character and culture philosophy on and off the field. His mother was a nurse growing up and always took good care of Greg throughout his entire career.
Now, he wants to give back to her and his fellow nurses by doing hospital commercials on local Western NY and national television.
He also wants to be paid, but he knows he must earn it first. Even when he eventually gets that fortune, he’ll still follow the values his loving mother taught him.
The sky’s the limit for this young man, and right now, he’s making the case for the Bills to sign him to a long-term deal once his fifth-year option is over.
Since Rousseau was named AFC Defensive Player of Week 1, I, like many Bills fans, want to see him earn his bag.
