Next up in the draft process is the Rutgers Pro Day. This is when players can get one more chance to show off their skills to NFL scouts. They can also potentially improve their draft stock if they impress. The Rutgers Pro Day will take place on March 28th.
Rutgers Pro Day Information
The number of Rutgers players in this year’s draft is small. There are only two players to expect to showcase their abilities at the Rutgers Pro Day. Here is a look at who they are, and what their draft projections are.
Ireland Brown – OL
After five years of college football, offensive lineman, Ireland Brown is heading to the NFL Draft. Brown started at Boston College for one season before joining Rutgers. His collegiate career began with him playing as a defensive tackle. He continued on the defensive side of the ball until 2021. That was his first year as a guard for the Scarlet Knights. He is now a center, where he has found success. In 2023, Brown played in eight games, then declared for the 2024 NFL Draft in January via his X. Brown is projected to go as an undrafted free agent. He can use the Rutgers pro day as a chance for teams to learn more about him.
Max Melton – DB
The most notable player from Rutgers heading into the NFL Draft is defensive back Max Melton. Melton has spent the past four years with the Scarlet Knights. He was the lone member to receive an invite to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. In four years, Melton has had 111 total tackles, 81 solo, 8.5 tackles for loss, and one sack, according to Sports Reference. He has also defended 22 passes and had one forced fumble, four fumble recoveries, and eight interceptions. One of the interceptions was returned for a touchdown.
Melton will be a big name to watch in this year’s NFL Draft. Throughout the season, his draft stock steadily increased. He may be a round-two selection but in the third round at the latest. He is a speedy player and anticipates routes well. Many teams could use him, and he is someone popping up on many mock drafts. Melton will be a name to watch on night two of the NFL Draft.
The Rutgers Pro Day will take place on March 28th. The players will also have time to schedule pre-draft visits with various NFL teams. After that, it’s the 2024 NFL Draft. The draft will take place April 25th-27th.
