Rutgers Big Ten

Rutgers Baseball - Ben Solomon/Rutgers Athletics

Rutgers baseball faced off against the Penn State Nittany Lions on May 6th. This was the second game of the series and the Scarlet Knights came out on top in both. On the first matchup on May 5th, Rutgers won 8-1. On the 6th, Rutgers baseball won 10-0. Here is some information on the win, and where the Scarlet Knights go from here.

Rutgers Baseball Domination

The series was held in New Jersey, and Rutgers got the win they needed. The Scarlet Knights currently have a 29-18 record and a 10-7 conference record. This puts Rutgers on a four-game win streak, and they are currently 13-3 at home. If the way the team has been playing continues, they will head down a good path.

The big standout in this game was Rutgers pitcher, Drew Conover. According to Rutgers baseball’s Twitter, Conover went seven innings allowing one or fewer runs for the third time in four weeks. While Rutgers has had strong games against the Nittany Lions for the past couple of matchups, Conover is keeping this team scary.

Following the first inning of the game, the Scarlet Knights were already up 6-0, truly setting the tone for the rest of the game. Josh Grauer-Kuroda, Ryan Lasko, and Chris Brito all had two runs each in the game. Evan Sleight, Jordan Sweeney, and Hugh Pinkney each had one.

According to the Big Ten’s website, Penn State went through five pitchers throughout the game. This is a good sign for Rutgers baseball. While they are doing well pitching with Conover, their lineup is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.

Following their win against Penn State, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are now in fifth in the Big Ten, and depending on how their next game goes, there is a chance they can be moved even higher.

Rutgers baseball and Penn State will face off once again on May 7th at 2 pm Eastern in Piscataway, New Jersey to finish the series.
