With all the chaos occurring with the San Francisco 49ers, wide receiver, Robbie Chosen attended a workout with the team. Chosen has been in the league for multiple years now but is currently looking for a new team to continue his career with. Here is a look at Chosen’s career, and the likelihood of him ending up with the San Francisco 49ers.

Robbie Chosen NFL Career (So Far)

Chosen has been in the league for quite some time now. Enough time for him to go through three different names. To be specific, the wide receiver began as Robbie Anderson, then he changed his name briefly to Chosen Anderson. Now he is referred to as Robbie Chosen.

Chosen has been in the league for eight years now, starting with the New York Jets. Although the Jets’ offense was never the highest scoring, the receiver was a bright spot of that offense. He would make key plays for them no matter what the score was. Eventually, after four years with the Jets, he left for the Carolina Panthers. This is when things began to go downhill for Chosen. Yes, he was not in the best situation, but the spark was not there. Since playing with the Panthers he played for the Arizona Cardinals and the Miami Dolphins. Eventually, he was no longer an NFL starter.

In eight years in the league, Chosen had 379 receptions for 5,082 yards and 30 touchdowns, according to Pro Football Reference. In 2023, he only had four receptions, being targeted just six times. Now, he has earned a workout with the San Francisco 49ers.

Likelihood of Robbie Chosen and the 49ers

Even with all that is going on with the Brandon Aiyuk situation, the San Francisco 49ers do have wide receiver depth. Aside from the main core of Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings, the 49ers have Ronnie Bell, Chris Conley, Ricky Pearsall, and even Trent Taylor who has been having a strong training camp. Also to be noted, the 49ers released their first unofficial depth chart. Danny Gray and Tay Martin are two receivers still competing as wide receiver depth. There is an idea of which receivers will be making the final roster, but working out depth is always important.

It should also be noted that the team also worked out several receivers on Tuesday, especially with Terique Owens being released due to an injury.

So will Chosen make the final 53-man roster? Well, anything is possible, but he is likely a camp body based on where he has been at. As of now, it was just a workout. There is a chance that he was seen today, and will not be returning. Chosen did start his career in a poor setting with the Jets. He could have made more of a showing with the Dolphins in 2023 though. There is a chance he is signed, and given a chance in a preseason game, but the odds of him making the 53-man roster seem slim.

What’s Next for Chosen?

If this were a couple of years ago this may have been a bigger news story, but now Chosen is not the player he once was. The best-case scenario for Chosen is that he does get signed by the 49ers. This will give him a chance to play in a preseason game this year. If the 49ers then choose to waive him, at least other teams can see how he is doing and potentially give him a chance.

The next step is to wait and see if anything comes from this workout. If no deal is signed, then Chosen will be off looking for the next chance to workout with a team. Hopefully, for the wide receiver, he gets a true shot with a team somewhere. Maybe it is with San Francisco, maybe it is somewhere else.

Update Thursday 8/8: The 49ers have signed a deal with Chosen.
