There is breaking news in the NCAA as RayQuawndis Mitchell has announced his commitment to play for the Penn State Nittany Lions. It was announced that Mitchell entered the Transfer portal on May 1st by The Portal Report on Twitter. Just a few days later, it is announced that he will be a part of the Nittany Lions. Mitchell is a graduate transfer but may be just what Penn State’s men’s basketball team needs.
Mitchell has been playing college basketball for three years now. He began playing in the 2018-2019 season with the Idaho Vandals. In the 2020-2021 season, Mitchell played for the UIC Flames, before being with Kansas City in 2022-2023. The next stop on his journey will be Penn State.
The Penn State Nittany Lions did make the March Madness tournament in 2023 but did not go far. Penn State beat Texas A&M in the first round but lost to Texas in the second. Despite this, the Nittany Lions did go further than initially expected. Now that they have proven that the team can make the tournament, the next step is to make a deep push. RayQuawndis Mitchell may be just the addition they need.
Mitchell is 6-5 and averaged 17.3 points per game last season, according to ESPN. Mitchell also hit 83 three-pointers last season. Aside from Purdue, the Big Ten is fairly open for who can be at the top for Men’s Basketball. This addition may push Penn State in the direction they need.
