The Baltimore Ravens made a significant move on Friday night, securing their top sack leader Justin Madubuike with a groundbreaking long-term deal, while also creating valuable salary cap space just before the onset of free agency.
In an official announcement, the Ravens revealed a four-year agreement with Madubuike, who showcased his prowess last season with a career-high 13 sacks.

According to a report from ESPN, the deal is valued at $98 million, with an impressive $75.5 million guaranteed, including $53.5 million guaranteed at signing.
This deal sets new records for defensive tackles in terms of both total guarantees and guarantees at signing. Furthermore, with an average annual value of $24.5 million, it falls only behind Aaron Donald’s remarkable $31.6 million.

Strategic Move: From Franchise Tag to Long-Term Deal
Earlier in the week, the Ravens had taken proactive steps by placing the franchise tag on Madubuike, ensuring he remained with the team and didn’t enter free agency. With the long-term deal now finalized, Baltimore retains its top defensive lineman and gains significant salary cap flexibility just ahead of the legal tampering period of free agency.
Under the franchise tag, Madubuike would have counted $22 million against the cap, leaving the Ravens $10 million over the limit. However, with the new contract in place, Baltimore stands to gain approximately $10 million in cap space, enabling them to be more active in free agency.
As they head into free agency, the Ravens aim to address key needs at the running back position, fortify the offensive line, and bolster their pass rush.
