Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams suffered a hamstring injury during Thursday’s practice and is now listed week-to-week, according to a report from ESPN. The team has already ruled him out for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, signaling he could miss multiple weeks.
Pierce on Team Effort
ESPN, in their report, mentioned that hamstring injuries are tricky for wide receivers. For example, Eagles wideout A.J. Brown injured his hamstring earlier in the season and has missed three consecutive games.
Adams’s injury comes as the Raiders face a challenging week. Head coach Antonio Pierce had hinted at making “business decisions” following the team’s tough 36-22 home loss to the Carolina Panthers. In addition to Adams, Pro Bowl defensive end Maxx Crosby is also dealing with a high ankle sprain and could miss time.
Trade Rumors Denied
There had been speculation about the possibility of trading Adams, but sources say the Raiders have turned down multiple trade inquiries since the summer. They consider Adams a key part of the team and have no plans to move him.
The Raiders also decided to stick with veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew over Aidan O’Connell for now. Minshew will start against the Browns, but O’Connell could be called upon if necessary.
Without Adams, Minshew will rely on other pass catchers, including Jakobi Meyers and rookie tight end Brock Bowers. Meyers will play a larger role, while Bowers, the Raiders’ first-round pick, has impressed with 18 catches for 197 yards and a touchdown in three games.
Adams, who has 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown this season, last missed a game in 2021 with the Green Bay Packers.
Pierce on Team Effort
Head coach Pierce said on Friday that no one needs to fill Adams’ shoes, but the team expects everyone to step up.
“Collectively, nobody needs to be Davante Adams,” Pierce said. “I don’t need another Davante. There’s only one, right? I just need the best version of Jakobi Meyers.
“We’ll see what happens come Sunday, but we really feel [positive] giving these guys the last 12 hours and now today, tomorrow to get ready for the game.”
The Raiders are preparing to face the Browns this Sunday, with hopes that Adams can return soon.
