Former Green Bay Packers standout Randall Cobb, in an appearance on a podcast Bussin With The Boys hosted by Will Compton and Taylor Lewan, discussed a flurry of topics that included his Packers tenure, his exit from Green Bay, and his thoughts on retirement.

“Everybody ages out of this league at some point. A matter of when, how. I’m kind of in that position now, if I want to go out on my own terms, I can. And I’ll be happy.”

Cobb said he’ll increase the intensity of his training in July and August but won’t sign with a team this summer. He would consider it during the season, but only with a team that has an established quarterback and is in a place he’s familiar with.

Cobbs’ NFL Career

The Packers selected Cobb in the second round (64th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. He was their seventh wide receiver drafted in 2011.

Cobb played the first eight seasons of his career (2011-18) with the Packers, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2014 after recording 91 receptions for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns.

In 2019, Cobb signed with the Dallas Cowboys. He played for the Houston Texans in 2020 and returned to the Packers in 2021 through a trade. During his last season with the Packers, he had 34 receptions for 417 yards and one touchdown in 13 games

Cobb put his earlier retirement plans on hold when he signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the New York Jets in 2023. He joined a group of wide receivers that includes Denzel Mims, Corey Davis, Mecole Hardman, and 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson.

Cobb has thus far played in just 37% of the Jets’ offensive snaps last season. He has recorded four catches for 35 yards and a touchdown. Despite the team’s disappointing 5-9 record and his limited contributions, Cobb claims he is at peace with his decision to join the Jets.
