Former Rutgers Mens Basketball player, Oskar Palmquist, has officially announced where he will be transferring. Palmquist announced on his personal Twitter account that he will be transferring to Elon University. Oskar Palmquist’s time with the Scarlet Knights was limited, but here is a look back on his career.
Oskar Palmquist
Palmquist has spent the past three years as a forward for Rutgers, though he has not gotten much playing time. As much as it is a difficult decision, Palmquist transferring schools can bring him more opportunities. Palmquist initially announced his decision to transfer on March 28th.
In his first season, Oskar Palmquist played in just 12 games. As a freshman that is understandable, but while his playing time increased, it was not by much.
Just this past season, Palmquist played in 21 games, according to ESPN, which is the most in three years. A large part of that can be due to the amount of injuries the Scarlet Knights sustained. While he did not start in any games, he played 58 total minutes, according to Rutgers.
Unfortunately for Palmquist, he has never had a true opportunity with Rutgers, and transferring could be a smart choice for him. The forward announced that he will be transferring to Elon University for the 2023-2024 season. Elon went 8-24 this past season, with a 6-12 conference record, and can use the help.
Palmquist will get more opportunities in the Colonial Athletic Conference. Rutgers has a stacked roster, and Oskar Palmquist had his chance due to injuries, but most likely would not have gotten many minutes next year. Elon has room to change the roster around after a poor season. Hopefully, Palmquist can finally be a starter for a team.
This is a great opportunity for the forward from Sweden, and now he can take his experience and create a new opportunity for Elon’s Men’s Basketball team.
