Ohio’s Division I college baseball teams are spread across the Buckeye State and six conferences. The Guardians and Reds (and Dragons, Clippers, and Mudhens) are proof of the love of America’s pastime in Ohio. Here is a new weekly look at college baseball across the great state of Ohio.

Dayton Flyers

The Dayton Flyers are 23-23 this season and are 11-10 in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers are in seventh place (out of 12) in the conference. Last week against Eastern Kentucky and St. Joseph’s, they went 2-2, including an insane 29-1 win over St. Joe’s on Friday. They play crosstown rival Wright State on Wednesday at Day Air Ballpark, home of the Cincinnati Reds affiliate Dayton Flyers. They’ll then host a weekend series against the Richmond Spiders. Richmond is 27-15 and 8-13 in the A10.

Wright State Raiders

Wright State is 27-15 and 18-3 in the Horizon League. They’re six games ahead and in first place in the conference. Last week, they went 3-1 against Xavier and Milwaukee. They’ll play Dayton this week in a big baseball game in the birthplace of aviation. They’ll then have a weekend series at Youngstown State as they look to stay on top of the Horizon League.

Youngstown State

The Penguins are having a rough year. They’re 12-31 this year and 9-10 in the Horizon League. They just won a weekend series against Purdue-Fort Wayne, taking two of three from the Mastodons. They’ll host Wright State this weekend in their final home series of the 2025 season.

Xavier

Xavier is having a good season. They’re 27-19 and are 11-4 in the Big East and only a half of a game behind the first-place Creighton Blue Jays. They’ve won eight of their last nine, including a sweep of Georgetown over the weekend. Wednesday, they’ll host Miami (Ohio) in a single game and then have a weekend series against Seton Hall as they try to keep pace in the race for the Big East title.

Cincinnati

The Bearcats are in the middle of the Big 12 at seventh place (of 14). They’re 24-20 overall and 10-11 in conference play. They’ve won three of their last four games and have a long road trip. It starts with a series this weekend in Lawrence, Kansas, against the red-hot Kansas Jayhawks. They’ll then visit ORU before wrapping it up with a series in Fort Worth against TCU.

Ohio State

My Buckeyes are in the middle of a very rough season in year one under new coach Justin Haire. The Bucks are 11-30 and have only three Big Ten wins. They’re in the conference basement at 3-18 but have a chance to win some crucial games this week. Tonight, they play CMU from the MAC and have the most critical series of any season this weekend when that team up north comes to town. Taking a series from them would make that 11-30 record much easier to stomach.

Ohio

Another team playing its remaining games for next year is the Ohio Bobcats. They are 10-32 and 5-16 in the MAC. Ohio lost three of four to Northern Kentucky and the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks last week. They have a weekend series up in Akron against the Zips this week.

Akron

The Akron Zips aren’t doing much better than their Ohio Bobcat brothers. They’re 14-29 and 7-17 in the Mid-American Conference. They lost three of four last week to Ohio State and Kent State. They’ll host the Pitt Panthers tonight before hosting the Bobcats for a three-game series this weekend.

Toledo

Toledo is 18-25 this season and is 10-11 in the MAC. They’re fresh off a win over Ohio State and have a busy week. Tonight, they play Mercyhurst, tomorrow they play Oakland, then this weekend they’ll battle crosstown rival Bowling Green in the Battle of I-75 on the diamond.

Bowling Green

The Falcons are 28-14 overall and 16-8 in the Mid-American Conference. This weekend, they’ll battle Toledo as they look to stay in the race for the MAC title. They’re currently in fourth place in the conference standings.

Kent State

The Golden Flashes are also 28-14 and 16-5 in the MAC. They, too, are in the thick of the fight for that conference crown. They play Pitt-Johnstown tonight before traveling to take on the first-place Ball State Cardinals in a three-game weekend series that will be huge in the final MAC standings.

Miami (Ohio)

Butler County, Ohio’s own is 24-19 and 18-6 in the MAC. The Redhawks play Xavier on Wednesday. They then have a weekend road series against the Samford Bulldogs in Birmingham, Alabama. They’ll be back in conference action the following weekend against Akron.
